Moms with gassy babies

DD was on similac early shield and was spitting up and very gassy. She was switched to similac sensitive 3 wks ago. She's no longer spitting up but is still gassy despite using mylicon. She only takes 2 bottles per day the rest of the time shes BF. She also is having BM every 2 days since starting similiac sensitive. Sometimes she wakes up crying and I can hear her tummy rumbling (this is after shes fed so shes not hungry)

Do you think I should switch formulas again? I've heard good things about enfamil gentlease.

Re: Moms with gassy babies

Ask your Ped first. My Ped said it's not good to switch formula's too much. She really doesn't like to tell parents to go to sensitive unless it's needed b/c most of the times it's b/c babies digestive systems are still premature and need to get stronger on their own.

Re: Moms with gassy babies

switching formulas could be your problem. It's going to take her time to get adjusted to the switch in the 1st place.

ITA with this.

At 8 weeks, my DS was switched to Gentlease and it took between 7-10 days for him to get adjusted to the new formula

Make sure you are burping her after her feedings.

also, it could be something you are eating, since she is also breast fed.

I switched my son from Enfamil Premium to gentlease and noticed only slight improvement.

I have since given up all dairy which has made a greater improvement..but I may have to switch my son to a lactose-free formula b/c he still has painful gas.

Re: Moms with gassy babies

As a ped dietitian I would say that I see such wonderful success on gentlease vs. sim. sensative and other formulas for these reasons:

Most babies are gassy/fussy b/c LO's gut is underdeveloped and has a minor transient lactose sensativity. By reducing the lactose (gentlease) it helps with gas, and by not removing the lactose(sim Sensative), it keeps the enzyme lactase working in the gut. Very rarely are babies lactose intolerant (usually about 2% of population).

Also, Gentlease has partially broken down proteins that help with digestion. Sim Sensative has intact proteins.

Gentlease is also similar to BM, unlike Similac. Maintains whey to caesin ratio of 60:40, like BM. Sim is mostly caesin. Also contains proper DHA levels, unlike Similac (added bonus).

So..I would 100% recommend gentlease, especially if you are bf. Works great..my favorite product to recommend.

Re: Moms with gassy babies

I went from Similac with Iron to Good Start due to gas. It was great! i will say DS spit up constantly until he was 7 months old but he was in NO pain and was still gaining weight and such so I was fine with a happy spitter! I would rather that than see DS in pain!

ETA: Took about 10 days to see real improvement
