Moms with more than one DC and gave birth vaginally...

while you gave birth... who watched your DC?? And how did that work? Did you call them when your water broke?

Grandparents. Called them about 1:45, we were walking out of the house & on our way to the hospital by 2am. Good thing. She came at 2:27am.Chat Icon

eta. my water didn't break until after she was born. I called when we were sure it was the real thing. It took about 10-15 minutes of contractions for us to confirm.

Re: Moms with more than one DC and gave birth vaginally...

My friend came to visit from OOT (my DH is in the military so we don't live close to any families). My due date passed and it was the last night my friend was going to be in town. I was freaking out because I had no one to watch my 1 year old if my friend left. Lucky I went into labor her last night there so my 1 year old got to stay asleep and we let our friend know we were going to the hospital.

My parents were designated to watch DS when I went into labor with #2. They live about 40 minutes away, so we were hoping things would work out.

They did, I went into full blown labor just after midnight, called my mom by 2:30 a.m., she got up, dressed and to me by 3:30 a.m and we were checking into the hospital by 4 a.m. I was already 7 cm when checked in, and reached 10 cm by 6 a.m. She didn't want to come out until after 10 a.m.!

I don't know if my Mom or Sister will be out here so I will have my SIL on call around the due date if no one else is here.

My mom actually stayed with us a few days before the baby came and was here to watch DD.

with DS, friends kept DD for 2 nights since she stayed with them overnight on occassion.

With DD#2, the in laws came down and we induced 2 days later.

All 3 kids were induced though, so we could plan for childcare which took a lot of stress off

Ella stayed with my parents while I was in the hospital. When I was in labor, the night before, I had my sister sleep over so that I wouldn't have to wake my parents or Ella if we left in the middle of the night. I wasn't sure how or if I would progress, and it helped me relax knowing that I didn't have to wake anyone or make plans to leave.

We wound up going to the hospital around 5am.

My next door neighbor who I had known for less than a year was kind enough to come over and sleep at our house... It was the day after thanksgiving and all my friends were out of town visiting family. My parents drove in the next morning. My water didn't break, I just was having contractions.

We live in NJ, but all our family is on LI so I ended up with a scheduled induction and my inlaws were here to stay with DS. I had a false alarm the week before so our neighbors came over and stayed with DS until family could arrive...only for me to be sent back home the next morning. Chat Icon

My inlaws watched my DD when I was induced with my second child. Being induced made the whole process alot easier.

Re: Moms with more than one DC and gave birth vaginally...

My mom watched my son while I was giving birth. Basically - my mom was "on call" as we got closer since she lived the closest. She was most familar with my son's schedule too since she babysat him once a week when I worked.

I assumed my water would break since it did with my first and I'd have time...but that wasn't the case...didn't break until 9cm. I was in denial I was in labor. I was on the phone when I was having contractions with my mom and she helped me time them when they were like 3-5 mins. She knew I was close but I kept telling her to wait - thinking they would go away when Dh came home and I rested (not sure why I was in denial - I went to the dr that day since I had weird pains that day and was 3-4 cm and told I was in labor but wait until contractions were regular and she doubted I'd make it the weekend if I made it the night). I called her after DH got home and she was there about an 30-40mins later. I should have had her come early because by the time she got there I was in so much pain and I was dilating fast I was about 5 cm by teh time I got to the hospital and going fast - I almost missed my epidural window!!!

Re: Moms with more than one DC and gave birth vaginally...

With my 2nd child I figured I would just have my sister or mom help out with my oldest son (we all live about 2mins away from each other). So I went early with my 2nd, right from the dr's office to the hosp so my sister took my oldest the entire time I was in the hospital and with my 3rd it was nightmare. Everyone was sick in my house and i started having pains so my mom came over then dh and I went however later on he got sick too so I guess you can say my mom watched him and the kids (it was the stomach virus) and then my sister was the one who stayed in the hosp. with me.
