Monograms on Items for school (backpack, lunch box, etc.)?

I have this pottery barn credit and I was going to get DS a lunch box and a small backpack for school.

I thought that if I monogrammed his stuff it would be easily identified as his but then I am wondering if it's a good idea.

Maybe just the lunch box?

Any input?

I think a monogram is fine, I personally wouldn't put his whole first name on it for safety/security reasons, but I don't see a problem with monograms.

We did monograms because a lot of the kids had the same backpacks & it makes it easier to spot.

I do have to say that the pottery barn backpacks didn't hold up nearly as good as I thought they should have but my kids are older & use them every day for school. We got the wheeled ones.

We have the preschool bag.... Fairfax? (sp) I put his name on it. It hasn't been a problem for us, but I probably won't when he is older.

The only thing is the bag is really small. You can barely fit a marble notebook in it. I use it only for snack, and a change of clothes.
