Montauk with a 4 year old

We are thinking about going to Montauk this summer, sometime in July/August. Just for 2-3 day getaway. Has anyone ever gone there with a small child and can you recommend a place to stay. DD will be 4 this summer.
Wondering if there are things to do for small children and if it's worth the trip.

thanks in advance,

My parents have owned their house in Montauk since *I* was four and my sister was two, there are TONS of things to do with that age.

I can't tell you really any place to stay, I've been a few places, but only for a few minutes.

All of the restaurants are family friendly, there is a fun candy store in town, and if you stay in town, you can walk to a lot of things, also the beach

There are a lot of parks, horse back riding, playgrounds..

I LOVE Montauk and have gone there since I was a child. There are a ton of places to stay, but definitely make reservations before you go since you are going in July/August. We like the Royal Atlantic - nothing fancy, right on the beach. The Ocean Beach is similar and right next door. They are both in town and walking distance from stores and restaurants. If you get a room on the first floor you can walk right out to the beach. My husband and I just went for a weekend and stayed at the Ocean Beach on the first floor...it's great!

With kids you can always go to the beach, walk around town, go to the fudge shop, go in the pool (both of those places have one - Ocean Beach has an indoor pool, Royal Atlantic has an outdoor pool with a snack bar/bar), visit the lighthouse, Gossman's dock has nice stores and an ice cream parlor, it is endless. When you get there just pick up some maps and pamphlets in the stores or in the motel and you'll find lots of stuff to do.

Can I come??

Re: Montauk with a 4 year old

my suggestion would be Royal Atlantic.

I grew up in montauk and went to see a lot of the hotels for recommendations on where to stay when i got married.

Royal atlantic is very outdated (most motels in montauk are), but it's right on the beach and 3 blocks from the center of town. Chat Icon

Just so you know, they might have a 2 or 3 night minimum. But i *believe* they are still offering free full breakfast each morning, which with a family... is worth it IMO. Plus what you might spend there for 3 nights, you'd spend that same amount somewhere else for 2 nights.

Good luck & have fun! Chat Icon

LOVE Montauk! We stay at the Royal Atlantic. They have motel accommodations AND Townhouse accommodations. We stay in the Townhouse since my parents go also. It's 2 story, 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, full kitchen, 2 balconies, washer/dryer, on the beach. The outdoor pool and snack bar is great too! The walk to town is literally right there. Not even a 5 minute walk. There is also a playground around the corner. We stayed on the beach and visited the pool during the day and at night went to town and Gossman's.
