more Aruba questions Re: Submarine Tour, Passions on the Beach Restaurant, and calling the US

We are going in a couple of weeks & still have so many questions.

Has anyone done the submarine tour? DH really wants to do it but for $200, I want to make sure it's worth it.

Has anyone eaten at Passions on the Beach? It;s going to be sooo much easier to get to than FLying Fishbone & I think it has the same feel by having tables in the sand.

If you called the US from there did you purchase a calling card? Did you get it in the US or Aruba?

Also, is is chilly at night? Will I need a cardigan?

And can I bring heels for dinner restaurants or is it not worth it because it's very casual?

I don't know about the submarine cruise or the restaurant since we went to neither. But we did rent a cell phone for $40 (this was in 2005 so it may be more now) at the airport from a car rental place. The $40 included 75 mins of talk time to the U.S. That was way more then enough for us.

Where are you staying?

There is a store in the high rise section across from the Hyatt, behind Hooters which is the local telephone company store. We bought a calling card there and you can use it at certain phones. It's the most affordable way to call the US (we asked the concierge at our hotel - we were staying at the Marriott Ocean Club).

We stayed at the Radisson for 5 days, 4 nights. We just need about 10 min of talk time a day to check in since we are leaving DS with our mothers.

Thanks for the info!

The Radisson is close to the Hyatt. I can't remember the name of the phone company but, it's close to where you are. I think we paid $10 for a card and we had a ton of minutes left over and had made a bunch of calls.

We also have rented a cell phone at the airport.bec our phones never worked (even though I think they do now, my dad still rents one - he thinks it is cheaper)

I needed a light sweater each night..the wind is chilly at night

and fancy flip flops are more than enough everywhere we go! I stopped bringing heels bec I never used them esp bec we walk to dinner along hte high rise strip every night!

I brought heels, but I didn't wear them at all.

Passions was excellent.. we loved it! It was a toss up between Flying fishbone, Old man by the sea or Passions... we stayed at the Hyatt, so it was quicker and Passions came highly recommend by an Aruba vetern. Chat Icon

Re: more Aruba questions Re: Submarine Tour, Passions on the Beach Restaurant, and calling the US

I don't know about Passions bc we went to Flying Fishbone so I can't help you there. We also wanted to go on the submarine tour until we saw that it kept getting stranded/stuck and had to get towed. We saw this happen about 2-3 times in the 7 days we were there! DH said there was NO WAY he was going on it after that.
As far as your fashion questions, flip flops were fine in every restaurant we went to. I went in August so I didn't need a cardigan at night.
