More Birthday Party questions

I am planning RJ's 2nd birthday party and am unsure of what to do.. This year I decided to do something more for the kids vs. the back yard party..

Rj's 1st was alot of fun, but cost me over 1k and to be honest there wasnt much for the kids to do..

Ive looked at woodkingdom, and was more than disappointed. Fun4all is out- because IMO- its just unsafe, I tried A ton o fun, and while I loved the idea- the place was filthy.

I am 90% positive Im gonna go with Little Gym . It was so clean, and new. The staff was really great and informative and RJ didnt want to leave.

Im just shocked over the prices I have been quoted. I mean is $400 the going rate for a kids birthday party?

For a non-member its 375, then 20 to add the moon bounce. They provide pizza and juice for the kids, as well as all the paper goods. Now of course RJ is obsessed with Choo-choo's so Id like to do a "thomas" themed party which is extra $$$ and I plan to order pizza for my adults- With cake Im realistcally looking at a $450 party Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I mean, I know to have it @ home its going to be just as costly....

Am I missing somewhere- is there any must have places that I should check out (suffolk only)? Is this an avg. price?

Marissa...I have been pounding the pavement for a few days now and unfortunately that IS the going rate.
it's nuts, but some of these places also do amazing parties...

I was gonna do Little Gym in Merrick myself because it was perfect, but they don't have my dates...I really liked what they had to offer.

Good Luck and lord help me she is getting Carvel and a Happy Meal next year...(yeah, I say that nowChat Icon )

Re: More Birthday Party questions

That does seem to be the going rate. My friend just had her daughters 1st b-day and had 3 Sesame Street characters and someone running the games/music and that alone cost her $450- and that was in addition to renting the hall, the food, alcohol, etc...

Re: More Birthday Party questions

I was at the Little gym on Port Washington yesterday for a 2 year old party.. It was great-- the kids had fun... she added Elmo to come in and tatoo and face painting to her party..

She had pizza for the adults with a fruit platter and a Dora cake from the King Kullen in the same shopping center... It was perfect.. Don't get yourself crazy--You have it at these places so you don't have to do that much work...

Unfortunately that is the going rate for birthday places...

They get you when you want to add extras..

Personally, If you want to do Thomas the Train just go to Walbaums or shoprite or wherever and get the cake Thomas train and just use their paperware... To me that is just extra money being thrown away.. The kids won't even look at the plates...

I just booked Jakes 3rd b-day party at Once Upon A treetop and that is there going rate too. I was also looking at pump it up and they were the same price. It is crazy, but it does cost alot more doing it at home.

I've never seen a Little Gym, but that's about the going rate for parties these days. Out of all the parties we have had, I think McDonalds and Chuck E Cheese were my son's favorite. The two least favorite places of mine, but if the kids like it, it works. McDonald's was also the cheapest..I think we paid $120 for that party compared to the 300-500 for all the other places.

Gold Medal gymnastics also has parties. They are a relatively new center. They are in the shopping plaza where Walmart is. They have some cute blow up things and the kids get to jump into the foam pit, swing from the trapeze thingy and more. Looks cute and I think it's around $275 last time I checked into it.

Re: More Birthday Party questions

We had 2 parties at the Little Gym, and they were fantastic. The kids had a ball, and it was very safe and well run.

We recently my son's second birthday party at Sandy Deck's Parties, which was also very nice, but it cost a bit more than TLG.

Re: More Birthday Party questions

The least expensive parties we've thrown have been Chuck E. Cheese & the movie theater.

There is a local movie theater by me that charges $350 for 30 kids + $6.95 for each additional kid. They don't charge anything for adults.

In my experience, parties at home cost a ton more because DH cannot be ok with simple food. It's hamburgers, hotdogs for the kids, steak, ribs, chicken for everyone else.

Yes, infortunately that is the going rate. I had my son's 2nd at My Gym in Huntington. While it was great, I did not do a party at a place for his 3rd. I have 2 of them now with nearly the same birthday, so I cut back and it was just as nice.

Re: More Birthday Party questions

yes. This is part of the reason I am doing a mid-week "playdate" party...although the other parties are a lot of fun - I wanted to do something a little lower key.

Re: More Birthday Party questions

Thanks-

Im glad to hear great things about little gym..

RJ and I are going for a free class next week, to possibly enroll for fall...

Either way I think Im going down on Fri. to book the party!!!

I think to save $$$$ Ill use their paper goods- but maybe buy a thomas tablecloth, wall decorations, and of course my cake will be a train!

Thanks again!
