More daycare issues...

i swear it just follows us.

so the tutor time where hannah goes was just bought by corporate. as such, they are changing a few things.

well one of the things that they changed is that they got rid of the highchair tables and bought small tables and chairs.

umm, my dc is 13 months old and needs to be strapped in, otherwise she throws herself to the floor.

is it developmentally appropriate for 12-15 month olds to be expected to sit on a chair without a strap?

hannah has such eating issues and now i am afraid that she wont sit and eat b/c she will be able to get out of the seat.

etd to add that these chairs are low to the ground.

Re: More daycare issues...

ugh that's annoying, I know when my dd was that age she needed to be strapped in to eat properly. I hate when these decisions are obviously made by people in suits behind desks and not by the teachers who are working with the children!

I think it is inappropriate to expect 12-18 month old children to sit at a table to eat without being secured.

ITA. I would have major issues with this. Did you bring your concerns to the director?

Re: More daycare issues...

Actually, at our school, starting at a very young age the babies sit in little chairs around a table.

I'd give it a week or so - you would be suprised at how well they adapt. The babies are so social - once they see their little friends sitting at a table and eating, they all do it together. It really may not be a problem. And, if it does turn out to be a problem, then you should talk to the director of the school and make alternative arrangements. Would you be willing to buy a high chair and give it to the school to use for Hannah? That's a possibility - though she may feel isolated sitting in her high chair while all her friends are eating together at a table.

I say give it a week or two, see how it goes and then make a decision from there.

Re: More daycare issues...

DS moved to the low chairs at his center at 18 months and I never thought it would work, but it has been great - i know older, but does she walk yet? I think it's fine as long as they are walking.

Re: More daycare issues...

I agree with the PP and say you should try it first. DS was at one of those little tables and he did fine. I don't think they had the high chair feeding table things at any of the daycares I looked at beyond the baby rooms.

I sent Noah to nursery at 12 months and he sat on a chair like a trooper, I never thought he would, but once they see the other kids doing things like that, they do them too!

Glad you decided to give it a go.

I think they'll have all of the kids sitting in chairs soon enough. They'll praise Hannah & the other ones will fall in line.
