More Formula Advice.....sorry
So I took DS for his 2 month check up the other day and he had his shots (poor thing). I addressed the formula issue w/ the doctor - lately, DS has been crying during some of his feedings and it takes a long time to feed him at times. Some times, he just needs a burp, other times, it looks as if he is struggling. The dr mentioned maybe food allergy, but no way to confirm, so he suggested Nutramagin. Well, of course, as soon as I get home, DS had no issues with the formula (Similac Sensitive) he has been on, so I questioned whether we need to switch....the next day, I decide to try the Nutramagin, giving it to him every other feeding to start. Well, the second he tasted it, he started screaming!! I gave him a break, again, same thing. He did drink an ounce, but I felt bad, so I gave him the Similac to finish off, and the rest of his feedings for the day went fine, except for one or two cries last night which I think was gas. So now I'm wondering if I should forget the Nutramagin? I just wonder if maybe he needed more time to adjust to the Similac (it's been 10 days)??? The only thing I do not like about the Similac is that he only has a BM every other day - dr said it's fine, but I wonder if that could make him more uncomfortable. Also, he said he might have eczema, so I'm wondering if Nutramagin would help that or if eczema is caused from formula?
Thanks for any advice, I truly need it!!

I feel for you...
Perhaps he was just adjusting to the formula. I would stick with the Similac Sensitive just a little longer.
Have you tried switching bottles? Which bottle do you use? Also, is the nipple too slow/fast? Maybe these things are adding to the problem?
As for BMs, some babies just have fewer than others. My DD only poops every other day too - she definitely gets gas build up, but it's better than the constipation she was getting on Similac Advance (she's on Sensitive too).
Maybe a bottle change can help.
Good luck to you...I know how heart breaking it can be.

Rylan did the same thing when he tasted the Nutramigen...I tasted it...it was horrible. I wound up going back to Similac Sensitive and now we're on Good Start.
I would give the Similac a little longer. I wouldn't worry about the BM...Rylan was the same way.
I don't think the eczema has anything to do with the formula...I could be wrong though.
We also use Dr. Browns and up until this week I was putting Mylicon in EVERY bottle.

We were recommended to give DD the Nutragamin, but we got the Smiliac Alimentum instead...DD is not that fond of it...she enjoys the sensitive more.
We will switch between both, when we run out of the Alimentum we give her the sensitive.

I have a few other brand bottle samples and was having the same result with them, so it's not the bottle. I had also thought about upgrading to a level 2 nipple, but not sure if he's too young - 9 weeks old. I forgot to ask the dr! I'm glad to hear other babies are only going every other day also!

Have you noticed a difference on the Alimentum?

Yes...no gas pockets at all (I used to feel her stomach bubbling) and when she poops it's not "painful" b/c she used to scream when she pooped.
The only downer is the taste...

The Nutramagin smells NASTY!! I could not imagine drinking it LOL!!! I was putting the Mylicon in the bottle just to get rid of the bubbles from the Similac Sensitive.

I just don't think my DS will ever eat the Nutramagin, I can see it in his face, he hates it.
