Re: More info about the YouTube carseat video
Thanks Nancy..
This line got me, and I really live by it:
Recognize each stage of restraint as a demotion, not a graduation.

It''s so true. My girlfriend turned her son front facing at 10 months and after I read her the riot act , she put it back. What's the rush?

Re: More info about the YouTube carseat video
Thanks, Nancy. I want to add another comment as a parent of a 4 year old.
Know your child and make decision appropriately based on that knowledge, not on what you are "allowed" to do by law.
I understand in that video that they are saying the seatbelt failed and since he was in a regular booster, he wasnt top tethered into the car. However, they also mention that alot of kids will put the shoulder strap behind them and also demonstrates what happens to a child in a crash if only belted in at the waist. Since my son moved into a booster, I have found him putting the shoulder strap behind him a number of times, despite my best efforts to make him understand why he can't (have resorted to threats as well ). Additionally, he can and has unbuckled the seatbelt on his own. Often. I did finally get him to understand he cannot unbuckle without my permission and most of the time he asks but like any good 4 year old, he loves to test me.
We recently moved him to a booster, he was of the weight, height and age that is suggested. We thought it was great (a "promotion") because we wouldnt have to buy another Marathon for the baby who was just outgrowing the infant seat. Perfect timing - he goes into a booster, the baby goes into his Marathon. But based on his behavior and seeing that video and hearing their story, he will be going back into a Marathon or into a 5 point harness booster. The problem with the Britax Regent is it's huge, even for my minivan. We are ordering another one from Cosco but I wanted to try it out first and couldnt find any stores that had it available, even to try out. I just found one at Target to try the other day. I'm sure that poor family is at least grateful that their message has made such an impact.

Ladies - I think we can all agree that if it were up to us our babies would be in a 5-point until they're 18!

Re: More info about the YouTube carseat video
I have a Britax Wizard for my DS, and just ordered a Britax Boulevard for my DD. They both go up to 65 lbs, so I plan on keeping them in those as long as I can... :)
I think I'll invent that 5 point car seat for up to 18 years old.... I'll be rich! :)
