Morse code
How important do you think it is in these days?
Do you know it?

Re: Morse code
Apparently its pretty important if you are in a plane crash landing on a mysterious, mystical tropical island and some people from a freighter try to rescue you but really, they aren't...

Fellow Lostie!
Short of the Boy Scouts, I'm not sure who would use it these days.

Re: Morse code
I know S.O.S. of course, and a few letters, but not much.
I think if you are piloting a boat or plane, it's probably good to know, but not mandatory.
Plus, you'd have to have someone out there who could interpret the Morse Code that you sent out!

Re: Morse code
i'm a dork... i bring everything back to knitting
i use it, sometimes, to incorporate a secret into what i'm knitting.
i've used it to "write" messages in the socks i knit my son
but to answer the original question. i don't think it's as important any more

Re: Morse code
I always think of that scene in Independence Day where all the troops use Morse Code so the aliens don't know what they are saying.....
I think it's still a valuable skill to have.

I'm guessing that if aliens can figure out the intricacies of the spoken English language, Morse Code would be a breeze....
We could just type in l337 (leet) and REALLY confuse the aliens!

What a cool idea!!!! And so sweet!
I'm not in with the knitting crowd, but is that a popular thing to do? Knit codes and messages into things??? So cool!!

it's not CRAZY popular, but there are some patterns out there specifically for "writing" something to the recipient of the gift.

Re: Morse code
We learned it in 8th grade...and I remember we had a contest where they put a message over the PA system and woever figured it out would go to the lcoation they indicated and win a prize, but I don't remember it. It's really itneresting though!
i like the idea of the messages in socks!
