Most surprising part about the presidential campaign so far
For me, it was McCain picking Palin. I did not see that one coming.

I would have to agree- since I had no clue who she was
when I heard on the radio he picked a surprising running mate
I thought it was Lieberman

I knew he was going to pick a woman, but it is surprising, because I had never heard of her.
Obama's pick was also surprising to me. This is a very exciting race!

Re: Most surprising part about the presidential campaign so far
That it's been going on for over a year and a half and we've yet to really hear anything of substance come out of either major candidate's mouth. Just a bunch of ideas, with no solid backup or funding sources.
I don't care about how many houses John McCain has, I don't need to hear over and over again how Michelle was Barack's supervisor at the law firm and how he "won her over", I'd like to hear how my personal situation as well as the country as a whole is going to be changed if they are elected.

ITA. Let's get to the real issues! What is the new president going to do to help the US?

That Hillary lost, though Palin is a close second.
I remember assuming Hillary would win before the February primaries, after that, it all became a different game.

Related to CathyB's point---how many people have formed such strong feeligs about various candidates--love or hate--without any real grasp of the person's stance on anything or track record.

Re: Most surprising part about the presidential campaign so far
That the Dems nominated someone as inexperienced as BHO and one with as much baggage to scare away the swing state voters/Reagan Democrats. (Reverend Wright, Bill Ayers, veto of the Born Alive Bill).
Particularly, when they had such a strong nominee in HRC. I can't stand Hillary...but I think she would win this election hands down. I'm not so sure BHO can pull off a win. At least, I certainly hope not!!
