Mother killed her twin girls
Link
I keep saying it’s impossible to do this with a sound mind. Wonder what that woman was going through to bring her to take the lives of these 2 beautiful little girls. My heart is broken for these babies. I just hope they didn’t suffer
I’m reading a lot of people saying PPD. If that’s the case, I urge anyone who may be feeling this way to please go get help. Bring your baby to a trusted family member or friend until you are mentally ready again. I can’t see another baby lose their life to their mom. So so sad

Re: Mother killed her twin girls
How long does PPD last though? If you don't get treatment will it just go on forever? I thought it was hormonal? Do your hormones go back to normal after a while even if you don't get treatment? I'm truly curious because I don't know. Or was it just a case of mental illness that was unrelated to post partum? How can they even tell the difference?

All questions I thought of too. I never had kids, so I don’t have first hand experience with it. I wonder if having them made an already mental fragile person worse? I just don’t know. There isn’t enough Info out about the case just yet. I just feel so terrible and can’t stop thinking about them. And hoping that there is some “reason” behind this. I can’t believe their mother was just some animal. I don’t want to believe it

Mother killed her twin girls
Society is the first to judge and the last to help.
Maybe if we offered more support to mothers and stopped judging those who are struggling, these things wouldn’t happen so frequently.
My heart goes out to these little girls and their mom. It’s a horrible situation.

I thought the same but my cousin was actually diagnosed with it during her second pregnancy which was when her oldest was like 18 months old. And since she's not on here I can say Thank God! She was such a miserable psychopath. They diagnosed her, gave her meds and she was a nice, normal person again and a better mom. It was sad.
This story makes me sick. I don't know what happened but she definitely was not in her right mind. Where was the 4 year old? I wonder who called 911. Just awful

Exactly. It’s so so easy to stand on the sidelines and tell someone “go get help”, especially when all we do is tell mothers that this is the best time of their life and it’s wonderful and magical and they should be enjoying every second. I had PPD and felt terribly ashamed of it. It took me a loooong time to seek help.

Yes, she told her mother she was going to kill herself and her daughters. And the mother called 911. It took awhile before they could find her it seemed.

Trauma, undiagnosed PPD, depresseion anxiety...who knows it's too layered. Your hormones never just "go back to normal." That's why this country needs to take mental health so much more seriously. Generations of people inflicting their damage onto others.

Re: Mother killed her twin girls
This is so horrifying. I can't even imagine what the mom was going thru.
In Georgia, someone threw away a newborn baby in a field. Thank God, a family that lived nearby heard cries they thought were from an animal and called police. The policeman tore open a plastic bag and found a hours old newborn girl, who again thank God is fine. Who can be so heartless to throw away a baby ?

Was this the one where his body cam footage of him finding her was released? OMG that was chilling. What a beautiful baby too

Yes, I get it but I also think people are quick to say PPD for any crazy act a woman commits anytime after she has had a kid with no time limit. I have a 9 year old. If I fall into a major depression or do something insane is it from PPD still? Maybe it was another form of mental illness. Maybe she was just an evil person. Who knows. Either way she wasn't mentally stable because a mentally stable person couldn't do that. Which again goes back to the state of how we care for the mentally ill in this country. Regardless of what the diagnosis is. It's very scary and sad.

People who are quick to label and mischaracterize are ignorant.
Full stop.
Undiagnosed PPD would eventually turn into major generalized depression. Its up to the person to decide if they want to keep blaming the PPD or not. It's playing a blame game if 10 years later they still say it's from the PPD. No, you haven't dealt with your shit.

Re: Mother killed her twin girls
as someone who dealt with "baby blues" after my son was born and as someone who (24 years later) is still working on my mental health, it's hard.
i have told very few people this...
there was a day when i came close to harming my son. it took EVERYTHING i had in my heart, body, and mind to stop, make sure nothing was pinching/poking him, put him safely in his crib, and go to the bathroom and scream, slam things, break things.
it was the most scared i have ever been of myself.
as someone who has not studied anything in this area, i can only speak to my experience. it's scary as fukk to know you are not yourself and nothing feels right at a time everyone is telling you that you should be the happiest ever.
if i had had less self awareness or a more severe case, who knows what might have happened. part of what i'm still working on is guilt. yes, i did nothing to harm my child that night or ever, but i still carry guilt that i even felt it.
my heart breaks for this family.

MarathonKnitter thank you for sharing something so personal. I'm sure it's not easy to admit or talk about. But talking about it can help someone else.
As for the OP story. So tragic. May those babies rest peacefully together.

Re: Mother killed her twin girls
In this case I don't think you can blame PPD unless she had a child younger than the twins. I know there was another child, just not sure if he was older or younger. Either way, why bother labeling it. Clearly she was mentally ill and clearly she needed help. Who cares what caused the mental illness. It's sad all around...

All true. I only mentioned PPD because that’s what was being said by people when the story first broke. Plus i wanted to shine a light on it for those who may be suffering in silence. It’s all just so sad

The news is reporting that the babies' grandmother stated her daughter had been diagnosed as bipolar as a teen, and has been battling depression and anxiety her entire life. She wanted to take care of the babies but her daughter said she could do it. So tragically sad.

Mother killed her twin girls
There are so many parents out there with mental health issues beyond just your run of the mill anxiety and depression. They have psychiatric disorders and belong hospitalized. We are a society of inclusion and focused so much more on outpatient and we don’t institutionalize. The problem is there are people who can’t function and are shamed and don’t reach out for help. Either they don’t want to burden loved ones, or the help they need is simply not available. Programs are few and far between. All of the mental health clinics have long wait lists and for those who are on Medicaid who can’t just call up a private psychiatrist and pay the fees they charge. I see it all the time at work. The kids are the ones who suffer and our hands are tied....

Re: Mother killed her twin girls
This reminds me of Andrea Yates
And when you hear her name you just say oh. The horrible woman who drowned all 5 of her kids. And yes it’s horrible and tragic
But this woman had post partum psychosis. Multiple suicide attempts. A nervous breakdown She told police she would fill the bathtub and imagine drowning the kids before she did this
She was told to never be alone with the kids. Yet the husband left for work.
She was brushed off. Those kids should have never died.

Mother killed her twin girls
Even long after the baby blues or PPD passes with medication, the stress of raising children can cause psychotic breaks for people that teeter on the edge. The stress of raising children and then raising multiples (twin mom over here) is more than some can handle and with the stigma of PPD it’s so tough for those to reach out for help. I have seen patients come in for help and ultimately feel betrayed by the outcome of the doctors decision to have them have an inpatient stay or to call CPS and I think people get scared to ask for help, I really do.
