Mothers Day-Do you split it with grandma and great-grandma?
I'd like to know what your Mother's Days were like before baby and now after baby.
Reason being, every Mother's Day, DH's family gathers at the Grandparents house and every Father's Day they gather at the Grandparents house. (Grandparents house is DS's great-grandaprents) DS is the first of his generation and I'm wondering if I could possibly spend mother's day without the entire extended family. I don't like traveling and feel like if I took the day off from work that I want to do what I want to do. Am I being selfish? (None of our family lives on LI)

I would celebrate your first mother's day however you want. I think it is nice to include Grandma but it should not all be about Grandma...KWIM? I say stay home and enjoy!

Re: Mothers Day-Do you split it with grandma?
Last year was my first Mother's Day. We spent it with my parents. My IL's don't live here (they live in Poland). We went to my parents' house where my brother had made a surprise visit from NC and all the men made brunch
This year MIL will be here visiting and so I think DH said he is going to talk to my dad and see what they will do for all of us ladies.
As far as you not wanting to travel, it is your day also and you should probably say something to remind your DH that you are a mom, too. Sometimes men get so caught up in making sure they do right by their moms that they forget the mothers of their children.

I don't think you are being selfish, it's your day and you should spend it how you like.
I've always spent Mother's Day with my mom. We saw my MIL when she lived around here.

No. I don't think you are being selfish, but didn't your FIL recently pass away? Maybe you guys want to try to do something to incorporate MIL because of that?

Oh, I fully appreciate you thinking that. But they were divorced for a while. For Father's Day, it's all about what DH wants. The Grandmother's house they want to go to is MIL's mother.

Oh, nevermind then!!
We are going to brunch with my parents. But we don't see MIL b/c she lives in Florida. SMIL gets flowers.

It's not even the fact of being with MIL. It's also Grandma and all the Aunts. I'm in the mood for quiet. I love his side of the family, but I never get a break.

Re: Mothers Day-Do you split it with grandma and great-grandma?
Well, I told DS I do not want to travel for Mother's Day. So he says he's going to invite his parents over. I say fine, but I don't want to cook or run around buying food either. So he says he'll take care of that. He's thinking he'll buy cold cuts.
I would much rather spend my first Mother's Day at Planting Fields with DS and DH. I really don't feel like entertaining anyone, though it looks as if we will do so. I'm with you on just having a quiet afternoon.
