Mother's Day Guilt
So DH tells me he wants to spend the day with just myself and Reilly this year and really that is how I want to spend the day.
Usually I host it but I just don't have the head to do it this year. So this will be the first year that I won't see my mother and he won't see his mother. We are going to stop by their houses in the morning to drop off flowers and all but I feel so guilty for not spending the day with them.
Is anyone else not spending the day with their mother?

Re: Mother's Day Guilt
I'm not spending the day with my mother because she lives in Florida. We usually see my MIL, but I told DH this year I'd really like to just spend the day with him and DS, since its my first official Mother's Day.
No guilt at all Make it about you! You're a mom too!

Re: Mother's Day Guilt
I'm not and I haven't for a few years. I will send her a card and hold a gift for when I see her.
we will be seeing my MIL on Sunday b/c we go back to our apt (where she lives) and we'll be having dinner together.
I think if i were closer to my mom it would upset me more....but my birthday is on Monday and I haven't seen her to celebrate it in over 10 years...she usually doesn't even remember to call
I don't think you should feel guilty AT ALL. I am sure they realize this is your first mothers day and want you to do what makes you happy. besides, you ARE seeing them...just not spending the day. there is nothing wrong with that.

Re: Mother's Day Guilt
I understand the guilt but if that's how YOU want to spend mothers day then don't feel guilty at all! I'm sure your mom will understand. We are seeing my mom on Saturday because she's in LI and we're in NJ and I don't feel like sitting in hours or traffic like there usually is on Mothers Day. My mom is 100% fine with that. On Sunday we'll spend the day as a family then go to MIL's house for a bbq since she lives really close.

Re: Mother's Day Guilt
Think of it this way - for as long as you were growing up and living at home, your mom got to spend her mother's day the way she wanted, with her kids. Now, it's your turn! I think bringing her flowers and wishing her a great Mother's Day is wonderful, and the you can enjoy the rest of your day with your new little family.
We are hosting this year, and will be for as long as my mom and MIL will come. They had their years, now it's my turn

Re: Mother's Day Guilt
I won't see my biological mother (who lives in Patchogue) because we are not on speaking terms and my stepmom is in Oklahoma ~ although my dad & stepmom came to visit me last year for my first mother's day! That was the best! We will probably be going to my MIL's...
