Mother's Frustration(a tad long..sorry)

My son Brandon is 13, a good student, a good athlete and if I may say so a nice young man. This year he was selected to play for a travel baseball team in our area, he is the only new player they selected. Today was their first tournament and my poor son sat the bench the whole game while the coach's sons who made error after error were never taken out. My heart broke for Brandon because he was just waiting for the sign to go in which sadly never cameChat Icon I don't know how I am going to make it through a whole season if this is how the coach makes his decisions.
Unfortunately this league is VERY political and since Bran is not well "known" in their circle I wonder if the poor kid will play much. It annoys me because he is good and they won't even let him show them what he can do, but took my check for $400 mighty quickly. Yet Bran has a good attitude

Thanks for letting me vent

That seems so unfair. I assume since it political there isn't anyone higher than the coach you can talk to. I mean it doesn't seem fair that you paid $400 for him to sit the bench.

Awww, I just want to send some HUGS. I've been in that postition too, and I know my parents were so disappointed, but they continued to go to game after game. I hope he gets in soon! Just keep going and showing your support!

AWWW Michelle Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can definatel vouch for what a polite and wonderful kid Brandon is, a true gentleman for a 13yr old ! and such a cutie too Chat Icon

I feel so bad that theyre doing this to him, it does sound like politics is taking over Chat Icon Maybe you can nicely (without Brandon seeing you? Chat Icon ) ask "Hey so when can Brandon get out there" type of thing... in a "good sport" way, as much as you wanna rip him a new one...

I hope he does play soon, and I so admire his great attitude, I hope he keeps his chin up and shows them what hes made of when he gets out there Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm sorry, thats so bad for him. I played high school soccer, and the varsity team was so political, the starting roster was a who's who of the town. Hopefully the coach will come to his senses, but from my personal experience, it didn't happen. There were girls who never played more than 5 minutes the whole season. I ended up transferring out so I could actually play. Chat Icon For your son. Tell him to hang in there!

Re: Mother's Frustration(a tad long..sorry)

Is there any way you can have a little chat with the coach? This seems to be a huge issue when the coach has a son or daughter on the team. I remember one team I played on for basketball when I was younger. The coach always put his daughter and his friends on and I warmed the bench. He'd let me in for the last couple of minutes if we were winning by a lot. Finally, my dad spoke with him and he started putting me in more.

I am going to see what happens the next couple of games, if this continues I will have DH talk to the coach, because a more level head will prevailChat Icon I understand he is the newbie on the team but for crying out loud the kid can't play at least one lousy inning?

I think you should definately say something to the coach. He is not well known, but don't let them forget about him.

I would raise a stinkChat Icon
