Moths in the house -- HELP!!!

Last week DH and I found about 10 moths in the house (most in the pantry) that were a cream/brown color. We identified them as brown house moths. We threw out all our food in the pantry, bought storage containers, and got rid of all evidence of the moths. I havent seen any in a week.

Fast forward to tonight -- I found larger black looking moths (one in the bathroom, one in the bedroom, and 2 in the kitchen). They dont look like the ones we saw last week at all. They dont fly really -- they just crawl along the walls or ceiling. They're usually in a resting position. One in the kitchen was huge -- over an inch in length. I cant deal with this.....its gross, I cant find the source, and im worried it'll become a huge infestation if I dont stop it now.

Anyone know what these could be and how to get rid of them??

I've checked the whole apartment and I havent found anymore tonight...but I'm sure more will show up.

Re: Moths in the house -- HELP!!!

We had the same issue a few years ago when we were in our apartment with the pantry moths. The exterminator told us we brought them home from the supermarket with our dry goods and we ended up throwing out hundreds of dollars of food.

We bleached all of the surfaces, bought airtight storage containers and restocked.

Luckily, we didn't have any other issues.

If it gets bad, I would call an exterminator.

we had this problem once in my parents house years ago. it started out like your situation and got progressively worse. they were pantry moths and we also beleive we got them from the supermarket. buying the containers and throwing away all cardboard packages is a good start. that's what they are attracted to. we also started keeping all kinds of stuff in the fridge for awhile. you can also buy moth traps. they look like little cardboard tents. if i were you i'd get an exterminator's opinion asap. if you start seeing hanging cocoons you know it's too late. seriously i know it sounds gross but it happened to us and i grew up with a always-cleaning mom in a neat and tidy house. we ended up having to empty rooms and fog them. so for your sake i'd be proactive so it doesn't get that far. good luck!!!!

My mom had them and they went through a life cycle or two and she has little worms crawing all overChat Icon SHe tried the foggers several times and they didn't work. We went around squashing them for a month or two and they just kept coming back. THE ONLY THING that worked was those carboard tent things. They interrupt the life cyle of the moths and now they are totally GONE!! Thanks god. It was naaaaasttty!

I think she got hers from a catolog but I have seen similar ones in ACE>
