Motorist rescues 4 year old boy left for dead
SWEETWATER, Texas - A North Texas father accused of abandoning his 4-year-old son along a rural highway in the dark has been charged with attempted capital murder.
Prosecutors say the charge filed Thursday against Carlos Rico replaces the child endangerment charge he faced after his son was found along Interstate 20 near Sweetwater about 3 a.m. Tuesday.
The 22-year-old is accused of choking the boy and leaving him on the road about three hours before he was found. The Ricos were driving from West Texas to Saginaw to see family.
When the elder Rico showed up in North Texas without his son, family members called police. Rico allegedly told investigators he was having a religious experience and that he choked the boy until he thought he was dead.
Rico remains in the Nolan County jail. It is not clear whether he has an attorney.
Police say the boy was picked up by a local high school basketball coach and taken to a hospital, where doctors removed at least 500 cactus spines from his body.
Sweetwater is about 200 miles west of Fort Worth.

omg how horrible first living through your father trying to choke you to death and then being left all alone in the dark on a deserted highway at 4yrs old  Im 30 and would have been terrified im glad someone found him I hope his father gets what he deserves

I hope that man never gets to see his little boy again and many for the boy
I can't recall but I hope Texas has the death penalty

That poor little boy -- OMG..... Thank God someone found him.......I pray he can heal -- emotionally and physically. As for the father, I have no words.....
