Re: Mouldings, trim, and nail holes...

I had white molding that was pre primed. I put white caulk over them, just put a little on your finger and swipe the hole to cover. I then painted with white trim paint.

Ours is white too. Did you have to sand after? I can't imagine that I'll be able to do it smoothly without sanding...and I have the whole house to do! Chat Icon

You can use caulk to fill the holes and a damp cloth or your finger to wipe it smooth before it dries. No sanding necessary.

Exactly. It was so quick to do too. Just pop some in quick and wipe it with your other hand or a wet papertowel to smooth.

As long as it it smooth (and dry), you can paint right over it.

Re: Mouldings, trim, and nail holes...

if you are painting it shouldn't matter but if you are staining a word of warning wood putty shows no matter how much you sand it! What a PITA-it is not noticeable to anyone else but it drives me crazy when I see it

Rich always uses Glazing putty, it's very easy to use, fills holes quickly & wipes right off moulding. And it doesn't shrink after it hardens. If you roll up a small blob of it in your hand & press it into the holes then immediatly wipe the excess with a rag it comes out perfect. No mess. This is what it looks like.

Kelly, that is what my moulding guy said to do...so I went out and bought it, but globbed it on thinking I could just sand it after it dried. Well, it took a week to dry and now its VERY hard to get off!

oh no...you don't wait for it to dry. You just wipe it smooth as you go, then let it harden. I put the blob in one hand & the rag in the other & do it all at once.
