moving and transporting frozen bm

so...we move next week and i have a few bags of frozen breast milk that i'd like to take w/me on the flight to ny (2 hours w/out delays)

anyway, do you think i can bring them with an ice pack in the medela storage bag and carry them on or should i try to use them and then refrigerate what i pump before? i would like to have some bm stashed for when i first get to ny b/c i know it will be hectic and family will want to hold/watch rocco while i get the apt. set up...

so in my usual convoluted manner - can i bring frozen bm and an icepack w/out worrying about having to use the bm right away? or would u suggest that i use the frozen before and just bring with me what I've pumped the day before?

I would def. call the airline to see if they will allow you to bring it on.
Good luck on your move. Are you so excited to be moving back to NY?!?

see if you can get dry ice to pack them in. when i took my son home from the hospital (i had about 100 bottles of frozen breast milk there) and we were in Philadelphia, coming back to LI. the nurse there got me a foam cooler and packed the bottles in dry ice, and it was a 3 hour car ride home.

Re: moving and transporting frozen bm

when I first saw the title of this post I thought, "Who the heck FREEZES their child's bowel movements??!!" Then I quickly realized it was breast milk!! Our daycare always calls poops "BM"! The funny thing is, I pumped & froze breast milk yet I've got the poop thing stuck in my head now for BM!

Anyway, I hope you figure out what to do. I never had to transport the BM like that since I directly breastfed and only pumped for extra bottles. I would probably NOT bring frozen BM, but just liquid so it's ready to go if necessary.

I'd use the frozen now and pump refrigerated bottles instead. Refrigerated is much easier to transport. But I'd still call the airline to check on amounts you can bring.

Plus, once you defrost frozen, you only have 24 hours to use it. Refrigerated can last longer, so you can keep it for when relatives watch him.

Re: moving and transporting frozen bm

What about using the styrafoam and dry ice the pp said but shipping it to a relative who already lives near your new house. If Omaha Steaks can ship out frozen meats there has to be a way to get the bm stash to it's new home.
