Moving costs
The Home board doesn't get so much traffic so I'm posting here. DH and I are expected to move and we're hiring movers. We're moving from a small one bedroom apartment to a 4th floor walk up. We have basic furniture. What could we expect to pay based on your experiences???

Re: Moving costs
You should get an estimate in writing from them way before you decide to use them and again BEFORE they put anything on the truck
Years ago DH hired movers and then after everything was on the truck they said the price had to be increased for some BS reason.
Also, make sure you check references and the BBB.

Re: Moving costs
I think most places will give you an hourly rate, but just remember that you have to pay for all travel time too.
We just moved from a 2 bedroom apt to a house, and it cost us $1300, but we had a lot of furniture and boxes!

Re: Moving costs
we moved twice in the past year and a half. i'd say it would probably be close to $1000. they do charge by the hour, but most places have a minimum of i think 4 hours.

Re: Moving costs
I got an estimate for about $600 but that was just for furniture, 3 guys, hourly rate. I was figuring it would be at least a $1000 so thank you guys for giving me some numbers to estimate it all with.
