Moving Up in Daycare

We got the letter in Thomas' cubby last night. Thomas will officially move up to Toddler Room on 10/27. He will start transitioning by spending part of each day there next week. He started sleeping in a cot yesterday and will eat at a table today.

The Infant Room teacher said, "she hopes it all goes OK". Then she looked at my face and realized what she said, and added, "he'll be fine! It's just that he's very attached to everyone in this room".

I'm very worried about his transition. He is VERY attached to his regular Infant Room teachers and his classmates (especially Kaitlyn Chat Icon ).

Can anyone share any positive stories about their DC moving up in daycare?

Thanks!

Re: Moving Up in Daycare

Logan's going through that right now.

He's been doing the cot thing for about a month and visiting Toddlers once a week.

I was so distraught over it because he's very attached to Anuba and Laura, his teachers, but he has an absolute blast in toddlers.

Because he was one of the biggest in the infant room I think he's been getting a little bored.

Now he's the youngest in the toddler room and they are always in motion. They always have activities and teach him things.

And the days he's in toddlers he's wiped OUT!!

Today when I went to drop him off in infants he ran to the toddler door instead.

I think the transition is tougher on us and his old teachers than them!!

Re: Moving Up in Daycare

When Lucas moved up at the old daycare, the infant teacher would come over to check on him. If he got upset they would swap and she would spend some time with him - that was very helpful. There were also a number of kids in the room that he already knew and I think that made the transition easier. The teacher in that room had moved from the infant room so she wasn't a complete stranger to him.

Fast forward to now...brand new daycare and he doesn't know ANYONE...none of the children or teachers...whole different place and he started sleeping on a cot, only one nap...but it all worked out fine. The teachers really rallied to help make him comfortable and he now recognizes them all. Knows the kids, the routine and no longer cries at drop off.

If Lucas could find his way I know Thomas will too! Chat Icon

Re: Moving Up in Daycare

DS has moved rooms twice now and it didn't seem to be a problem. He had a week of transition where he was in both rooms during the day. His old teachers would pop in to check on him and on days when they have room in the other rooms, they move him around so he gets to see his old buddies for awhile and his old teachers. It took about a week of adjustment for him to really get into the routine of the new room, but after that he was fine.

Your son will be fine. He'll still see his old teachers and that adjustment week really helps. There'll be so many knew and fun things he'll be doing, he'll enjoy it!

DS moved into the Toddler room and has never been happier. The toys, activities and general layout of the room are so much more conducive to his social and developmental level. He is even better at home, since he is not bored all day at school. It has been a great experience for him!

When my son moved up into the toddler room the differences were fantastic! It was really when he started talking, he has learned so much and grown so much, it was great for him! Now I just have to get him potty trained so he can move up into the preschool room!

it will be great for him, and he willl build lots more relationships quickly! Good luck!
