Moving while pregnant?

It's still so surreal, but it looks like DH and I will be homeowners. Chat Icon I had given up on the idea of finding a home before the baby was born so I'm thrilled that we finally found something.

Has anyone moved while pregnant, particularly in the last trimester? Assuming all goes well with the inspection, etc., the closing will take place in a little over a month. We may not move in right away, but we'd definitely move before the baby is born.

How difficult was it moving while pregnant? We're usually last minute type of people, especially with moving, but I plan to pack a little at a time over several weeks.

Congratulations on the house!

I would just hire movers. They are not that expensive.

Thanks. I'm definitely going to hire movers, but DH and I plan to pack (and unpack) the boxes.

Re: Moving while pregnant?

I've had 2 friends move while pregnant... one in the late 2nd trimester, and one after 35 weeks Chat Icon

obviously, the latter friend had a moving company do the vast majority, and her DH had to do the remaining bit. she mainly concentrated on the light stuff... putting away linens, taking care of the nursery....

My other friend helped pack kitchen stuff and other medium-light stuff and has done a lot of overseeing and organizing... but once again, movers did the heavy stuff.

both were settled in within a couple weeks!

congrats on the new home! Chat Icon

You'll be fine! I wasn't pregnant when we moved, but I had thrown my back out (surprise surprise Chat Icon) and wasn't able to do anything except the actual packing of the boxes. We had lots of help from friends, but most importantly, everything got done in due time.

Re: Moving while pregnant?

We moved when I was 6 weeks pregnant, and no one knew yet. I still had to lift a few things to make it not so obvious. I did end up bleeding that night Chat Icon - I must have either over done it or not drank enough or something. So don't do any lifting - not that you would be as stupid as I was. Chat Icon

It was crazy around here for the longest time. Poor DH had to do all of the priming and heavy work, I did help him paint though. We wound up just getting a professional painter for the rooms/hallways we just couldn't get to.

We still had some of the boxes in the garage until DDs were like a year old. We just never got to everything. Don't stress, let being parents be your first priority - you can get to the house anytime! Chat Icon

Re: Moving while pregnant?

Yay for the house!!! Would love to hear about it via FM. Chat Icon

When we made the actual move I was 26w, so packing and unpacking was before and after that (still happening actually Chat Icon ). It was tough because I am definitely waaaay slower than I would in the past, and it was very hot there for a couple of weeks and the littlest things exhausted me. But now I'm like whatever....it will all get done. We hired movers, but also did all the packing/unpacking on our own.

Good luck, so exciting! Chat Icon

Re: Moving while pregnant?

We moved into our new home when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant. My family helped us pack, clean and paint, and then we hired movers.

Be sure to have your hospital bag ready before you move. We moved 2 weeks before my due date, but I went into labor 5 days after we moved!!!

We are doing the same thing, but most likely the baby will be born before we close. I've been packing up some stuff.

Re: Moving while pregnant?

We're moving the first week of November so I'll be 25/26 weeks. DH already knows that all I can really do is pack, I don't want to lift anything. We're only going from a 1 bdrm to another 1 bdrm so aside from some furniture, we don't have much so my brother and DH's friends will help him. I'll supervise. Chat Icon

Re: Moving while pregnant?

We moved when I was 8 months preggo!!

Looking back, I dont know how we did it but we did. It was a little difficult but in some ways good since I was happy to start fresh!!!

I would advice packing little by little so it is not crazy towards the end. I also hired someone to clean the place so I wouldnt have to breathe in the chemicals. We had it painted and aired it out for 4 days before I actually set foot inside.

Re: Moving while pregnant?

Thanks everyone. Chat Icon It's nice to know that others have been in a similar situation. We'd probably move when I was around 34 or 35 weeks pregnant. Chat Icon Maybe I'm crazy, but that seems a little easier than moving with a newborn. I definitely plan to pack a little at a time. DH will either clean or we'll hire someone b/c I don't want to be around the chemicals.

For everyone who's moving, hope your moves go smoothly. Chat Icon
