MRI during pregnancy?
My OB wants me to visit my back doctor and clear me to deliver and get an epidural since I have a few herniated and buldging discs in my lower back. I havent been to my back doctor in years so I am worried he is going to send me for an MRI and I dont feel comfortable getting one.
Now people have told me they are safe, but I would like to do my own research. Has anyone had one done? Anyone know any sites or books I can read to research it? I know I can google, but I vowed I wouldnt google during pregnancy.

Re: MRI during pregnancy?
I had some issues while I was around 20 weeks and my doctor's would not do an MRI on me, although they really needed to. They are making me wait until after I deliver. Is this something that they would be able to do without contrast? I think that is the part that is dangerous for the baby. For what they needed to do for me, contrast was absolutely necessary.

Not sure, I havent seen my back doctor yet. The last time I had an MRI on my back was 8 years ago so I dont remember what they did. I dont even know if he is going to require one, so I am just really preparing myself for worst case scenario, KWIM?

Re: MRI during pregnancy?
I didn't have to have one while pregnant, but while nursing I had a CT scan. My OB said MRIs don't use a contrast, so that would have been fine. CT scans are done with or without contrast. If it was with, I would have had to wait 48-72 hours before nursing again. Without contrast (which it was), I didn't have to wait at all. But pregnancy is different and I don't know about the rays that are emitted.
I have severe back issues and was able to have 2 vaginal deliveries without any complications. Epidurals were another story...they would not work on me, but I was able to have a spinal with my second delivery to give me an hour or so of relief.
