MS relief- Unisom and B6

I talked to my doctor today about my severe morning sickness and he suggested Unisom and B6. I goggled this and it seems to work for many people. Unisom is mainly known as a sleep aid, but was originally manufactured for nausea. Has anyone taken this? Any successes? I really don't want to go to the prescription route yet and he said he won't unless I'm dehyrated. I'm getting sick in the morning, maybe once at work and then all night long.

i have not tried the combination - there used to be a drug that was a combination - if you search you will find the name - the B6 helped me a bit though so i stopped there

Yes! I did this! My dr. suggested it to me as well. I took a half of a unisom pill and one B6. I then shoved a saltene in my mouth before I even opened my eyes in the morning - I didnt do it for that long, but when I did do it - it definitely helped.

I think you have to take the unisom at night b/c it is a sleep aid as well. And then some sites I saw said the B6 in the am. I know my doctor suggested it, but I've never taken a sleep aid normally so the thought of taking one while pregnant seems weird. Truthfully though I am sickest at night, and not sleeping well so I may take it. I don't like swallowing pills (I have many problems I know, LOL), so I'm thinking of getting these:

Ok do not get the sleep melts. There are diff. active ingredients in the different ones. This is what I found:
Discuss taking Doxylamine Succinate with your doctor and investigate possible alternatives. Since the FDA has not classified any sleep aids as completely safe to use during pregnancy, you will want to carefully compare the risks vs. the potential benefits of taking this medication.
2
Purchase the Doxylamine Succinate from your local pharmacy. Ensure you buy the 25 mg version of Unisom and not SleepGels or SleepMelts that contain diphenhydramine HCl, which according to BabyCenter's Medical Advisory Board should not be used by pregnant women.
3
Take Doxylamine Succinate about 30 minutes before you go to sleep for the night. Make sure you can stay asleep seven to eight hours after taking it since it will make you extremely sleepy. Dizziness might occur if you get up too soon after taking the medication. Follow the labeled instructions for usage, ensuring you never take more of the product than recommended.
4
Contact your doctor if you feel the need to take Doxylamine Succinate for longer than two weeks. Sleeping pills can be habit forming, and according to OB-Gyn Dr. John Larsen, your baby can get addicted in utero and suffer from withdrawal symptoms after birth. Consider alternative insomnia remedies such as chamomile tea, hot baths and other soothing nighttime rituals.
5
Refrain from taking Doxylamine Succinate during your last trimester. Medications taken shortly before birth potentially remain in the baby's system after birth. According to the Mayo Clinic, antihistamines are unlikely to cause serious problems, but they can make newborns jittery and cause excitability and irritability.

I went the B6 route and it is definitely helping. I eat a full breakfast and then take it. It helps me get through the day with a little less nausea. I have been so tired I couldn't think about adding the Unisom into the mix, so have been holding off on that.

Re: MS relief- Unisom and B6

I just spoke to my doctor because my m/s is starting to interfere with my job. He said to take the unisom sleep tabs 25mg AND a B6 50mg, 3x a day. I asked how i'm supposed to function taking a sleep aid 3x a day. And he said well, that's the downside. Chat Icon

I couldn't do it. DH was nervous too. I bought the sea bands, and they worked great the first 24 hours, not so much now. It is what it is though. I'm 9 weeks today, so I figure I could deal with 3 more weeks, and if it doesn't improve, I'll need to go the meds route. The thing is it's not even the puking that bothers me, it's the fact my house is such a mess b/c going in to the kitchen makes me throw up. Ugh!!!

i hear ya - i wore the sea bands to drive out to suffolk for court this morning and still puked as soon as i got back to my office. i will try the unisom/b6 but probably only at nighttime. i can't imagine taking it during the day...
i also can't imagine 4-5 more weeks of this (i'm 8w1d).
