Mucus Plug question - Sorry if TMI!-UPDATED

I am 35 weeks and I had an MD appt yesterday. She did an internal exam to test if I was leaking amniotic fluid because I had questioned that i may have been that AM. It was a quick yet painful exam. She said my cervix was still closed and she tested the fluid and it was just discharge...no problems.

Last night, after going to the bathroom, I wiped and saw a large mound of gelatinous material...mucus. it was pretty firm, maybe silverdollar in size, not like watery discharge. it had a yellow/brown tint. It scared me.

Is it possible that was my mucus plug or at least part of it? and if so, I know that doesn't mean I am going into preterm labor, but has anyone lost pieces of it and still waited another 5 weeks??

I don't have any cramps..I feel fine.

I called my doctor. Waiting for a call back.

Any advice would be great!

******I spoke to the doctor and she said that it was definitely the plug, possibly not the whole thing, but that it was probably from the internal exam. She said not to worry and they will check me next week at my regular appt. Obviously she said to call if anything else happens.***

Thank you to all that responded!!!

sounds like it!! Good Luck...my plug was normal mucus color and I did not notice it. I figured it was just a heavier discharge for a few days

It sounds like your plug! I know that some women lose their plug early... I've read that sometimes it happens up to 2 weeks beforeChat Icon

I heard that it can take up until 4 weeks or longer to go after you loose your plug. Do not worry. Good Luck.

Re: Mucus Plug question - Sorry if TMI!!!!

It sounds like your mucus plug, but it can regenerate, so it doesn't mean that you are going to labor right now.

I found this:

"Frustrating as it is, each pregnancy is as different as each labor is and is different as each baby is. The mucous plug can be dislodged without any provocation; it often happens after a cervical check in the clinic but does not give any real indication of when labor is to begin. Although 35 weeks is a bit early to experience this, it does not mean labor will happen soon. Unless - is it possible that you are off on your dates and you are really one week from term instead of five?"

lost my mucus plug and ended up having baby a week and 1 1/2 later. the doctor told me at the time it could mean tomorrow, next week or two weeks your body will predict. if your cervix is closed its probably not going to happen in the next couple of days.
