Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
I went for an NST on Tuesday. I was 36w2ds. Thursday was my well visit and my doc said he wants me to do a weekly NST/BPP until the baby is born. Is that normal?
My blood pressure was 110/70 as usual. My NST results were normal and the nurse said it sounds like I have a healthy baby boy. I had 2 contractions but I never felt them. The heartbeat is always steady, strong and found ASAP.
At the well visit he said my cervix was thinning but closed and the baby was -2/-3.
BACK STORY: In September when my mom passed away I had a LOT of cramping and pain. I was sent to a friend of my doctor's who has an office in Binghamton. I had an NST there at 27 weeks and everything was ok. No contractions or anything. Directly after my mom passed away when I stood up, again the cramping was back and a lot worse. I was rushed down to the ER and then up to L&D (guess it was good that I was in a hospital). They gave me another NST for 40 mins and while his heartbeat was elevated, he was ok, I was ok and again no contractions.

I am sure it is just a precaution to make sure you and LO are ok.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
I went for 3 different NSTs at the end of my 1st pg. I was overdue and my BP was high so they wanted to see if everything was ok. Everything was fine and I got some nice pics of DD and I got to see that I was having contractions even though I didn't feel them.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
Its surprising to me if you havent had any other complications because usually by the time we are as far along as we are(I think Im due the same day as you) my dr isnt too concerned because the baby would be healthy if born today. With my DD I was on bedrest for 3 months for contractions and shortened cervix, but they took me off of bedrest at 37 weeks. I had tons of NST prior to that but I dont recall having one at the 37 week appt(I delivered before my 38 week appt). It doesnt sound like there is any reason to believe your baby is in distress but maybe they are just being overly cautious....

I have to go for nst 2x a week. i am 37.5 weeks. they say its bc i am having contractions that i dont feel and that my fluids are too high. did you ask about your fluid level?

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
I had to go every week for a while. They err on the side of having you take these tests often. The tests can't hurt you or the baby so they may as well do this. It is a major inconvenience and somewhat uncomfortable, though.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
I had them twice a week for the last 2 weeks. I had elevated fluid and then I was late. I would ask them why they think it's necessary.
My ob said that sometimes you get looped into the "system" of every two weeks for no reason.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
i had an NST and an ultrasound every week from 30 weeks on. The doc was concerned because of my stress level (due to my Mom's health) and GD. it was never a problem and they due it to be overly cautious. You'll be fine!!

Sounds like a precaution to me. Once my cervix was so short and I also had contractions at 33/34 weeks, I was getting NSTs every week.

I had them once a week from week 38 onward and then twice a week once I was overdue.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
I think my OB is concerned about my stress b/c he asked me about how I'm dealing with the holidays without my mom. My fluid level was normal from what I was told. But I did have 2 contractions that I didn't feel in the 20 mins I took the test.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
I would just flat out ask your Dr why. It's not a harmful or invasive test but it's not the norm for a low risk pregnancy. Perhaps he just likes to err on the side of caution. Rather then make yourself crazy about it wondering just find out why.

Re: Mulitple NSTs at the end of 3rd Tri
They started my weekly NSTs at 31 weeks. I'm 35 now and just got it done this morning for this week and I have to go again on Monday bc the heartrate dropped, I dont know what the number was though the machine wasnt in front of me but it was significant enough to go again in 2 days to check and make sure everything is ok.
