multiple pets
I noticed from another post that many of you have multiple pets.
We just got our first puppy 6 months ago and we are obsessed with him! He's our world. But, we feel so bad that he's alone for so long during the day. We think about getting another dog, but it would really be just to keep him company. Don't get me wrong, I would love and care for the other dog just like we do our puppy, but I'm not sure I want another one. I feel like another dog would be more work, but maybe I'm wrong. But I do want our puppy to be happy. KWIS?
For those with multiples, was it alot different having more than one? What made you decide to get another?

But keep in mind...the opposite can also happen. We felt the same way about our older dog being alone, so we got a puppy. Believe or not she much rather have it without him. She tries to bite him all of the time so we cannot even keep them together when we are not home.

Re: multiple pets
I have 2 pugs. The older one is 5 and the baby is 1. At first I have to say it was pretty hard. They used to fight all the time. I would have to separate them during the day, because I thought they would kill each other. Anyway... Now they love each other, they look after each other, play with each other and the little one always follows her big sister around the house and tries to protect her. It really is the cuttest thing! If you want to get a puppy to play with your pup, I would do it now. Don't wait! I think if Bella (older dog) was a little younger and wanted to play all the time, like the puppy did she would of adjusted better to the new pup. Good Luck in whatever you decide!

She tries to bite him all of the time so we cannot even keep them together when we are not home. This happened to DHs dogs. Actually the newer dog, although we love her, would much rather be an only dog. Also, sometimes when you get a new dog the previous dog reverts back to puppyhood. The dog can back slip into old habits of bad housebreaking, etc.
It is not an easy decision, and one that you should make with the best of education.
One benefit we found was taking our dog to others' homes to "test" how they were with another dog. We even kept Fascinus at MILs house overnight to see. Also, when we adopted other dogs, we had the benefit of a home visit to make sure the new dog got along with the existing one.
Good Luck

Re: multiple pets
I have two dogs, a pitbull that is 9 and a chihuhahua that is 3 - they're BEST Friends
My parents have a 13 Yr old MinPin, 3 year old Maltese and now a 9 month old Yorkie- again they all became BEST FRIENDS!!!
Of course in all the situations there was some jealousy at first BUT in the end it all worked out!!
GOOD LUCK

Re: multiple pets
I wouldn't get another dog just to be a companion to the one you have now. It sounds like you don't really want to do the extra work and that you won't love the new dog as much (although I'm sure that would change!). You should get a second dog as both a companion for your dog and a new "baby" for you as well.

Re: multiple pets
I got a second cat b/c I wanted another one and to keep my kitty company while we were at work. They are the best of friends and it isn't that much additional work, but I think cats are less work than dogs.

Re: multiple pets
we have three dogs...now they are all buddies, but when we first brought Morgan home to Jessi, she was not happy...she igored Morgan for a good month...and she did the same when we brought Riley home. Morgan and Riley bonded immediately...now all 3 get along just fine

Re: multiple pets
3 cats here
Buddy was our only cat a long time but when he lived with my hubby's grandma it was no big deal cause we all lived in the house and he always had attention, etc.
When we moved out Grandma told us to take him with us because she couldn't manage the stairs, etc.
After a few months, we started to feel like he was lonely. We didnt have time to play with him and we felt guilty.
Got Sparky, who was a pill. They didn't love eachother and rarely played as Buddy was just learning to manage his diabeties. By the time it worked out Sparky died (6mnths later)
So we got Bonnie & Clyde which our older cat Buddy LOVES they play together, clean eachother, snuggle together, its really worth it. IMHO
So glad they are all happy, healthy and loved.
