My 1 year old Nephew has strep throat...
I didn't even know 1 year olds could get this.
Last weekend my brother, his wife and my nephew went pumpkin picking with some of our cousins and their kids. Apparently one of the kids must have had it and was never on the right antibiotics to fight it off completely and my nephew caught it. Poor thing! My SIL and I were talking last night cuz I heard he wasn't feeling well, we just thought it was a cold or a slight fever but this morning his fever went up to 103 and they took him to the doctor and he said he had strep throat and has to be on antibiotics for 10 days. For safety precautions she has asked us to stay away from him and from them for the 10 days because she said that she doesn't want any of the adults getting it and then possibly giving it to Matthew. We live next door to each other. My mom sees DS every day. So she said for my to especially stay away from my nephew cuz if god forbid she gets then she can pass it to DS.
I was wondering how dangerous it would be for a 4 month old to have strep throat?

Well its def. possible
My DS got strep throat 6 days before his 1st b-day...
BUT after being on antibiotic for 48hrs he is no longer contagious- no need to seperate for 10 days....

No you have to be on antibiotics for 10 days but you are no longer contagious after 48hrs...
At school- a child with strep is allowed back after he/she has been medicated for 2 days....
So if your nephew starts his medicine today by Monday you could come in contact with him and he wouldnt be contagious- do you get it?

That's just to make sure the bacteria is completely gone and killed, otherwise he could relapse.
after 48 hours on antibiotic it is no longer contagious.
Believe me i know! I had my tonsils out at 24 cause my whole life i had strep at least 8 times a winter.
Poor little boy, that stinks, hope he feels better soon

IF the child is on antibiotics (and we are gonna assume the child is on the correct ones) then after 48hrs (meaning the child has taken ALL doses for the day- for 2 days straight) the child is no longer contagious....

I should ask him. We have the same doctor and I don't recall if my SIL said that the doctor didn't want anyone near him for 10 days.
