My 12 1/2 month old refeuses to be "fed"

She will only feed herself, which means I have to serve her food that she can eat all by herself. No more yogurt. No more pureed veggies or fruit. No soups.

What can I do?

Any ideas??

DD is EXACTLY like this! I had to forgo yogurt and now give her turkey, string cheese etc for lunch..fruits she can pic up..she loooves blueberries, strawberries, cut up and bananas cut up...dinner is usually a meat and veggie cut up...

ETA: she started this at 11 mos and now its even worse we just got rid of the yogurt..I have given her the yobaby smoothies in her sippy that she enjoyedChat Icon

I know that, I was asking for suggestions on finger foods.

I give her a lot of:
pasta
meatballs
steamed carrots/sweet potatoes
peas
toast and apricot preserves
whole grain pancakes
cut up meats
cheese, cheese, cheese (she loooooves cheese)

I defrosted some blueberries tonight and gave her those after her meatballs.

I also give her a spoon or fork and let her try and pick up her food with it herself. It's cute!

We hit a phase like that and it passed after a few weeks. I found that the more people we had at the table the more I could sneak in spoonfuls. I then mastered the art of distraction. I'd light candles on the table and blow at them so they would flicker, brought one of the fish out of the tank and let him swim in a bowl she could see, invited people to eat with us and even packed up lunches so she could people watch at the food court at the mall.

I dilute yogurt with whole milk and put it in a sippy that has a fat straw, like this:

so he can drink it. Only way I can get him to eat yogurt!

You can give her yogurt! Give her a spoon and let her try - this is how they learn! Cailen did this as well and he learned how to feed himself. Don't worry about the mess!!!

I haven't given DS pureed food in months. He'll usually let me feed him yogurt, but sometimes he'll refuse to eat it or will want the spoon. He eats all kinds of table food: pasta, meat, vegetables, fruit, cheese, grilled cheese, pancakes, eggs, beans, waffles, etc. She should be able to eat small pieces of almost anything.

DS is the opposite! He refuses to touch any food and only wants to be fed....Chat Icon

This is a GOOD thingChat Icon

You can try cutting up chicken nuggets, grilled cheese, pierogies, waffles, toast

I did still feed DS yogurt for a while, b/c he liked it, and let's face it, Yobaby is Chat Icon I am not wasting it by him flinging it everywhere...and its thin. The "toddler" yogurts have more sugar, but they are thicker...

Re: My 12 1/2 month old refeuses to be "fed"

DD is like this, but I find that it all depends on what is on the spoon. She will only eat what she really likes on a spoon. And I need to also have something for her to feed herself in between. Like the yogurt for example - one of her faves....I feed her a few spoonfuls and then give her some fruit or cheese to pick up and then I can get in a few more spoonfuls, then more items to pick up, then more spoonfuls, etc. Give this a try - totally works for us.
