My 3 week old Dooney bag is falling apart

I got it as a gift. I went to their Madison Ave boutique and they said they couldn't do anything for me since I don't have a receipt.

They gave me a shipping label (that I have to pay to ship and insure) and the bag will be repaired and returned to me.

I don't even want it anymore. After 3 weeks, it is literally falling apart.

And, it IS real- my MIL bought it at Macy's. But, of course, she can't find the receipt.

Can't they search her credit card # for the purchase? I know some stores are able to do that.

did she use a credit card? The monthly statement can serve as receipt in most cases

When I went to the store, they gave me the number. I had to call on my cell phone (BTW- I was incredibly pizzed that they wouldn't even use THEIR phone to make the call)

After 19 minutes, I was told to send it back and that if it's REALLY that bad, they send me another bag.

Again, I think this is total BS- the bag has only been used for 3 weeks. Chat Icon

They weren't mean to me, but I got the STRONG feeling that they thought my bag is fake. They brought out the same one from their back room and side by side- mine was faded, scratched-like everything that touched it left a mark, and the bottom piping is torn.

I even went to far as to say: "It's definitely real- the serial number is stitched inside of it"...they didn't even respond to my comment.

I would go back to Macy's and complain. Someone could have returned a fake one for a real one. If she bought it on her Macy's card they can definitly look up the purchase.

Wait..Im confused.

If it looks that bad and you have no receipt, why would you think they would believe it was only 3 weeks old?

I wouldnt believe that based on what your saying?

I dont think its bad customer service.

The bag was just "released" for lack of a better term just in time for Christmas.

I think that telling me to use my cell phone to call their customer service department while I'm standing in their store and they had NO other customers to assist is extremely bad customer service...

But, my gripe remains with the fact that I have to dump money into sending this bag back to them for it to be "repaired"...I'd have no issue with that if the bad were old, but it a brand new bag, newly released so they know it can't possibly be that old.

I would contact D&B or speak to a Sales Manager at the Store.

Similar situation happened to me years ago at D&B and the Sales person didn't even ask for a receipt. She just told me to pick a new bag.

I hope you can get to the bottom of this!!!!

Can you return it at Macy's? If she bought it at Macy's they can look up the receipt if she has the credit card.

Re: My 3 week old Dooney bag is falling apart

FWIW - I had a coach bag that fell apart after about 1-2 months of use but I had the receipt. They made me pay to have it shipped ($20) for repair. The policy was if the coach people deemed it beyond repair then the $20 is credited to you plus the full value of the bag for a new one. If what you purchase leaves a ballance remaining they give you a check. It was a complete PIA.

Oh the other thing, my old bag had that piping and it came apart after 3 weeks too. The wire came out and it looked awful. You have my sympathies.
