My baby is getting a flat head....i have a question

My DS's once perfectly round head is now getting flat.

I've read about thing to do during the day to avoid laying him on his back...but will that REALLY help?? He sleeps 12 hours straight on his back and his head is definitely getting flat...

He is almost 4 months old. What did you guys do? Any solutions for the crib??

Do you do enough tummy time with him??? That's one of the main reasons why you should do tummy time, to avoid flat head.

Anyway, Michael never layed flat - we utilized his boppy a lot. I propped him in it a lot whether face up or for tummy time to avoid the "flat head"...

Maybe his sleep positioner helped too - it was a soft incline. But at 4 months old, the positioner parts were taken off and he used it as a "pillow"....

What about one of those Bumbo seats - Michael never had one, but I think it's good for 4 month olds - it sits them up securely. Do you have a swing to sit him in??

Don't worry, I think he's still young enough to fix his little flat head!

Maybe try a sleep positioner to help him to sleep on his side more. I would definately talk to the pediatricia. I also suggest that you feed your baby while holding them and like suggested more tummy time and holding up by you. Try and get baby upwards more during the day. If it's to much to carry baby around - typ a sling around your side.

Get him in an exersaucer as soon as he is ready, this takes all the pressure off of his head. Also, don't worry too much about it, it takes something like 18 months for their skull to harden, so it will change. Noah has a flat head, so does my dad...I think it runs in our family

Re: My baby is getting a flat head....i have a question

Thanks everyone!

I think I will buy the noggin nest and give that a try.

I do hold him, do tummy time, have bought an exersaucer....but the fact that he sleeps on his back for such a long stretch isn't helping...hopefully that nest will work!! I don't want to have to use his poor head as a shelf, lol

DD is almost 10 months and still sleeps on her back but she sits up so much and crawls etc that it's not flat anymore. I used the noggin nest too for the bouncy and whatnot.

Re: My baby is getting a flat head....i have a question

Sara had a flat head. The main thing the doctor told us was to change positions when she sleeps alternateing right and left side. Also he mad e me stop using the infant carrier . He said that is the worlst for her. I as also told sara should be on her belly whenever possible. She was not happy with me for that. I also had the nogging nest and it was great while she was in the swing.

Sara is now 10 months and no signs of a flat headChat Icon
