My belated labor story...
Okay, I said I would write all about it, so here goes:
I went into the hospital at 6:15 AM on Monday July 18th to be induced. After getting ready; getting in a gown, having my vitals checked, getting some bloodwork done, and answering tons of questions, my doctor arrived and started inducing immediately. At 7:00, he inserted a pill (I can't remember what it was called) to get contractions started and hopefully get me dialated a bit more. After 3 hours of minor and unpatterned contractions, I had dialated enough for my doctor to break my water.
At around 10:30, I was given an IV medication (another name I can't remember) to start more strong and consistent contractions. After a couple of hours, the contractions finally started getting closer together and became a lot more painful.
At around 1:00, I was given demarol (sp?) for the pain. I hated that stuff. It made me dizzy and a bit loopy and I instantly regretted taking it. I wasn't dialating any further, so they kept increasing my medication on the IV. The contractions continued to get stronger and closer together though and eventually, they got to a point where they were so close together that I wasn't getting a break between them.
It got to a point where I wasn't able to catch my breath and they tried turning the IV down, but the contractions kept coming. I wasn't getting enough oxygen and the baby wasn't either. They tried giving me an oxygen mask, but that didn't help at all. Because of that and because of the fact that I still hadn't dialated any further, my doctor decided it would be best to do a C-section.
While I preferred a natural birth, I had prepared myself mentally for a C-section just in case and in the state I was in by the time the doctor made the decision, I was more than willing to have it done. I found out later on that the baby was stuck in a position that would've ended up in me having a C-section regardless, so I'm glad that the doctor decided to do it early.
DH got into scrubs and I got an epidural (absolutely wonderful!) and the surgery began. It felt weird, but DH and I had a conversation as if nothing was happening and it definitely took my mind off of it. Soon we heard our son's first cries and we both started crying as well.
Christopher Michael was born at 2:59 PM. He weighed 6 lbs 8 oz and was 19.5 inches long. A perfectly healthy and beautiful baby boy that DH and I fell in love with the instant we laid eyes upon him.
My recovery wasn't too bad. The pain from the C-section wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. The nurses at Southside were absolutely wonderful. On the second night, we did end up being moved to a private room, which is probably the best decision we made while we were there. It was great to have the extra space and the extra privacy and was nice to get away from my roomate who made my second day at the hospital miserable.
I ended up going home a day early. I was eager to get home, so I was discharged on Thursday afternoon. DH and I have been enjoying every second with Christopher. I had a rough pregnancy and a rough labor, but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. If anybody has any questions, feel free to ask. I'll post some more pictures of my boy soon!

Re: My belated labor story...
Congratulations. Welcome Baby Christopher. BTW I think the medications you were referring to are Cervidil and Piticion.
Enjoy your little man
