My Birth Story

Ok so I can finally sit to get this all down so here goes:

On Wednesday 11/29 we had a 8AM appointment at NSUH to be induced. We arrived at about 730 and headed to admissions. We were in there all of 5 minutes and we were brought upstairs they were waiting for me.

We were brought to a room and were greeted at the door by my nurse for the day. She was actually new to the hospital, so another nurse came in and I actually had them both all day. They were so kind and calming. I was asked all the questions and they started by fluids and antibiotics (+ group b) at about 830. I was apparently having contractions on my own, but I didn't feel anything. They were still erratic but definitely there. Anyway at about 930 my Dr came in. She checked me I was 2.5 CM and 80% she broke my water immediately. I was shocked. She wasted no time. I was then started on the pitocin. She told me I could have the epi whenever I wanted and just to let her know, just to try to progress a little on my own before getting it.
About an hour later I was getting contractions that I started to feel. Nothing major just period cramps. All I have to say is I was actually happy that all my life I've always had really bad period cramps because it was the exact same feeling. I was checked again a little while later and was about 4cm. I got till about 5cm on my own then got the epi. The epi was not bad AT ALL. I was scared for it, but it was nothing. The novacaine before it is what I jumped from, and after that I felt nothing. They started me first with a shot of the epi through the IV and not a constant drip. After the epi, the nurses told my DH to go and get something to eat and we could relax. I actually fell asleep for a hour or so. It was wonderful. (THANK GOD I SLEPT)
My DH came in and my contractions were really regular I was now at 7cm and they came in to put the epi on a constant drip. It was about 2:00. At about 3 she came in and I was 8. By 4-430 I was 10. IT WAS TIME TO PUSH.
PUSHING is no joke. Its HARD work. I pushed for a LONG time. Over 2 hours. It was to the point where they were laying across my stomach trying to get this baby out. Her head would appear, then disappear. I was tired and the epi drip ran out. I was in pain and tired and really thought I would never have this baby. My Dr. gave me the " we gotta do something soon or else your going in for a C section" speech because I was pushing for so long and there was no end in sight. The baby would not come past the bone and stay past it. Finally she asked if I wanted the vacuums assistance, since this wasn't working. I eagerly agreed. My Dr really waited since she said she wasn't a huge fan of the vacuum but I wanted to deliver vaginally so bad and we were so close she agreed it might be all I need. At this point I was in so much pain she called them in to give me more pain meds. They gave me another shot through the epi. She put the vacuum on the baby and I pushed and that was all I needed.
Megan Eileen was born at 649PM
8lbs 8ozs. 21in.

My doctor ( Dr. Anita Sadaty) was wonderful. I couldn't believe she stayed there with me the entire time. I tore on my own and didn't have an episiotomy. It turned out the cord was really short and the baby could not move as freely as she wanted, being the reason I pushed for so long. We are so blessed and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. I cried tears of joy as soon as she was born. It is such a surreal feeling. We are beyond thrilled!!!!

Re: My Birth Story

Congrats!! I hjad to have the vacuum as well. It was no big deal though, the baby was stuck behind my pelvic bone but they realized it asap and did it right there so my pushing only lasted 20 mins.
All in all your experience sounded like mine and you were pleased with it. I was like .. this wasn't so bad after all!!
Congrats again.. see you on parenting...

Re: My Birth Story

Congrats!! she is beautiful!

I pushed for 2.5 hours too, it's def hard work. My DD's head was too large to fit through my vaginal opening. I had to use forceps, such a relief after pushing for that long, I gave birth to her hair 30 minutes after I started pushing.

That's wonderful your dr stayed with you, mine only came in after those 2 hours, did the epiositomy and forcep delievery, stitched me and left!
