My Birth Story

Well, on Monday, September 3 around 3 pm I was sitting in our yard with DH and some family members when I started to feel a slight pain going from my right side to my back area. I never thought much of it since it was really mild and not excruciating. Anyway, I felt a bit hungry so I went inside the house and grabbed a Dole Fruit Cup. About 5 minutes after eating the fruit cup I started to feel nauseous so I went to the bathroom where I vomited like crazy.

I decided to call my midwife at this point because my mom told me that when she was going into labor with me she vomited. After talking to my midwife she told me that I should head straight to the hospital because it seems as if I am going into labor.

DH and I then grabbed my bag and then we head to the hospital. I went to Triage where they hooked me up to the monitor and they saw that I was having HUGE contractions which by the way I was not feeling but they could see the contractions on the monitor. So they decided to admit me because I was in the early stages of labor.

Anyhow my midwife notify me and DH that I would be having a C-Section around 9pm so in the mean time they gave me some injection to stop me from contracting. The reason for this is because I have a HUGE fibroid on top of my cervix and they did not want me to keep contracting and to deliver vaginally because it can lead to heavy bleeding which would not be good for me.

Any way they took me to the recovery where they started to prep me for the C-Section and to continue monitoring me. Around 8:50pm I was wheeled into OR. At this point DH was already dressed in his scrubs. He had to wait outside while they administer the drug into my spine. However, they could not get it into my spine so I ended up having a the local anesthia. By the way, when they where trying to put the needle in my back it was so painful for me and they tried doing it like three times which was no fun at all.

DH was so disappointed that he could not be with me during the surgery because I had the local anesthia which puts me to sleep. I think if you are put to sleep no one can be in the OR with you.

My DD was born at 9:39pm weighing 7lbs 7ozs and measuring 20 inches long. I was asleep so I did not get to see her. Not only did I have a C-Section but they also removed my fibroids. So, in a sense I got two cuts.

After I heard when the doctor said to me "Opal get up you have a beautiful baby girl." I got up shivering and feeling very groggy. I remember asking where is Ella and they told me I would see her the next day. I then asked my DH did you see her and he said yes she is so beautiful. He then kissed me and thanked me for giving him such a beautiful daughter.

I was wheeled back to the recovery room for like 2-3 hrs where I was trasferred to my room. The recovering part was no joke but it was so worth it and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

The next day I got to see Ella and I was extremely emotional when I saw how precious she is and that I am her mother. Even though I was in alot of pain just seeing her face made me feel alot better.

I would also recommend that if you can try and get a private room. It was the best thing for me. Having my privacy and also I had TONS of visitors so I did not have to worry disturbing anyone.

So, there goes my birth story. Sorry for the rambling.

Re: My Birth Story

Congrats! BTW you had general anesthesia not local. Local is just lidocaine like they give you at the dentist and I'm thinking there's no way your having a c/section with just lidocaine!Chat Icon

I was wondering too! Chat Icon Now that make sense that you were under general anesthesia and that DH was not present.

She is beautiful! Congrats again!

And I do agree with the private room if you have a c-section. He helped me so much with the recovery.
