My birth story
Ahhh...my birth story, it is a crazy one, but I guess they all are right?
Well DH's b-day was on the 22nd, and I had a Dr's appt on the 23rd so we were out in LI and went to dinner w/ my parents to celebrate, we went to Famous Dave's and I think that's what got things going b/c I woke up at 2:30am feeling contractions. I timed them to make sure there was a pattern b/4 I bothered waking DH up. And they were about 6min apart. So at 3am I woke up DH and jumped in the shower and we headed back out to LI (I live in Westchester, but delivering at NSUH-Manhasset).
The contractions were bearable but by the time we got to my parents they were 4 min apart. I called my OB when they were 2-3 min apart, and he said to labor at home as long as I could, go for a walk, etc. So DH and I went for a walk around my parents block and the contractions started getting more painful. By 9am it was getting pretty bad so we went to the hospital, when I got there they were 2 min apart. They brought me in and admitted me to a room but I was only 2 cm dilated so they couldn't officially admit me, my OB sent me walking around the hospital, told me to come back around noon.
At this point the contractions were suuuuuper painful and coming right on top of one another, which was the worst part b/c I didn't have time to recup b/4 the next one came. But I went on my walk....by 11:30 I couldn't take it any more and told DH I was going back up to be checked in, he's like it's not noon yet and I told him in no uncertain terms I didn't give a hoot what time it was I was going to be admitted...and get my epidural.
Oh also apparently the L&D ward was packed...I got the last delivery room, which was where J-Lo gave birth! They admitted me, I was 4 cm. I immediately requested the epidural b/c I couldn't lie down. Right before they got ready to give it to me they checked me again and I was 6cm...I was flying open. But sitting still for that epi was probably the hardest thing I did! I was pouring w/ sweat, and that's when my water broke. But it was worth it, the epi was heavenly! When I was 8cm, and on my back, they lost the baby on the monitor and couldn't get her back, it was pretty scary b/c all of a sudden 4 people come rushing into the room and they inserted the monitor inside me and screwed it on her head :o(
But they got her and her vitals were not steady, they thought she was on her umbilical cord so they had me turn on my side and everything was fine. Next thing I know it's 3:45pm, I"m fully dilated and ready to push! Pushing on your side is alot harder apparently then on your back...and she would come down and then go back up...then her heart rate started dropping when I was pushing during contractions, after about 1.5hrs of pushing and her heart rate dropping the Dr finally said I needed a emergency C-section b/c the baby was in distress. So they wheeled me in and she was born at 6:01pm.
Neither DH or I could believe we had a girl, we were both convinced the baby was a boy! But I'm so in love w/ her! She was 7lb 15 oz and 20 inches long. Even though it didn't work out the way I wanted (to give birth vaginally) it's still the best thing I've ever done! I'm so amazed by her, and I think I cry at least once every day...lol.

Avery is absolutely gorgeous! I'm glad to hear that you made it through okay, sounds like it was a tough L&D.
