My Birth Story
Hi ladies, I have a few min so I thought I would post my labor and delivery story.
Went to the dr. last monday and nothing was happening. I was discouraged and getting frustrated and dr. told me to come back Wed. If nothing then, he would induce on Sat. He suggest DH and I have sex to get things going so Dh and I tried it and it must have worked because at 2:42 am tuesday morning my water broke! One thing I didn't know is that when your water breaks you leak like crazy!!! I kept leaking and leaking. Dh called dr. while I tried to get my things together. We got to LIJ in 25 min. from central Westchester. I got examined and I was 3 cm dialted 50 percent effaced and did not feel a thing! No contractions, nothing. At around 6:30 I got checked again and had only dialted to 4 cm. Dr. wanted to start Pitocin but I said no. I wanted to see how I would progress because my contractions were not that bad. I was breathing through them and they weren't that painful to begin with. Three hours later however I had only dialted 1 cm. (Up to 5cm now) Dr. came back in and said he wanted to start Pitocin and that because I wasn't dialating fast enough there was an increase risk of infection because my water had already broke. So i said fine and they gave me the Pitocin. I kept calling it the evil drug because it made my contractions 100,000,000 times worse. That's when i asked for the EPIDURAL...which i didn't want but i was proud of myself for getting to 5cm w/out the drugs. The Pitocin helped speed things along and the EPI was a dream. I didn't feel a thing. I started to push 3 hours later and I only pushed for about 45 min when Alexa was born! Honestly from a scale of 1-10 I would rate my experience a 6. The pushing really wore me out and was uncomfortable and for me the worst part of labor. But once she came out every pain was worth it.
I'm breastfeeding and I didn't expect it to be as hard as it is but I'm trying to take it one day at a time. And it's true what everyone says...sleep when the baby sleeps!

Re: My Birth Story
Great birth story! I agree with you on the Pitocin and the pushing. Pitocin made the contractions so much worse for me too (even w/the epi) and the pushing part was the worst part of labor for me too. But like you said, when you see your babe for the first time, it makes everything sooo worth it!
Congrats again
