My Birth Story... Finally!
Thomas Michael was born on 5:49 p.m. weighing in at 6 pounds 9 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long.
On Monday I started having mentrual like cramps and noticed a bloody discharge. Luckily, I had a scheduled doctor's appointment that night. Dr. examined me to find that I was 2 cm dilated and 80% effaced. He said if cramping continued through the night, to go to Labor and Delivery in the morning. Cramping did continue through the night. We headed to hospital and arrived about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. I was having contractions, but they weren't regular. The woman examing seemed like she was going to send me home, but one of the doctors from my practice was at the hospital and he said to keep me and they'd start pitocin to bring on regular contractions. He said I was "ready". I was two days past my due date. They gave me pitocin at 9:20 a.m. I had epidural at 3 cm. Dr. broke my water at about 11:45 and at that point I started to feel contractions again and terrible pressure. They gave me two more epidural "toppers", but they didn't work. They think they put epidural too high (because I'm on the short side). My chest felt numb, but I could feel my legs the whole time. Over the next several hours I progressed from 3 cm to 8 cm and then 9 cm and then 10 cm. By this time I was begging to push because the pressure and the urge to push was SO strong! I pushed for an hour and Thomas was born! It was amazing! I felt such relief and happiness as soon as he came out. My husband watched the whole thing from my side, up at my head, but they didn't put a sheet or drape up as we had thought, so he really saw just about everything! He doesn't seem too traumitized though! He even came around to see the baby's head crowning! Once they broke my water (which didn't hurt in itself) I felt contractions and pressure which was just as bad if not worse than the contractions for the rest of the labor. I'm sure it would have been worse if I hadn't had an epidural at all. All in all it was an amazing wonderful exprerience. I'm just getting around to posting now, because I've been extremely overwhelmed and feeling very blue - intense happiness and intense worry about everything, baby, family, etc. Guilt about missing the days when I could sleep, shower, lay on the couch, etc. I'm doing better now than I was last two weeks.
Anyone else feel this way after delivery???
Hope you enjoyed my birth story. Sorry it's so late!

Congratulations! I think we've all felt the blues, especially right after giving birth. Don't worry, it will get better!

Re: My Birth Story... Finally!
Congrats!
Yes, I felt the same way. I would cry when I put on the baby einstein lullabys for Taylor. Then I would start laughing b/c I thought it was so silly to cry. I was very hormonal for about 3-4 weeks. Now, I am just sleepless!
