My Birth Story (Long)...
I had been having gas-like pains for a few days… nothing major , just uncomfortable… but I don’t have the greatest stomach, so I didn’t really think much about it.
On Saturday… we just hung around most of the day… it was beautiful outside… we barbequed hotdogs and ate outside. At around 9:30pm... I started to get very bad what I thought were gas pains… I was extremely uncomfortable, but just thought it was the hotdogs and sauerkraut I had eaten for dinner. All night I kept complaining… around 1:30am I decided to take a bath ( I had been obsessed with baths my entire pregnancy)... and I was always up all night because I had insomnia with the pregnancy too.. so I took a bath and it felt better. I got out and I tried to go to sleep, and probably slept for about a half hour or so… then all of a sudden at 3:30am, I was woken out of my sleep with a feeling that the baby had just put her head through my bladder… it was the strangest feeling! I ran to the bathroom… (DH asked me if I was okay… I said yes, just had to pee)… when I went to the bathroom, water came out and when I wiped there was some blood. That is when the panic set in a bit, and I ran out and told him that I thought I may be in labor and should call the doctor because I was bleeding. I paged my dr and told him what was going on, he said that I should head over to the hospital to see if my water had really broken. So, we started getting all of our things together… and we woke my grandma up downstairs (she lives with us) and she got dressed. By the time we got into the car, I realized that these were contractions. It was about 4am… and I started timing them. They were about 1min..1min and a half apart. When we got to the hospital at around 4:30am we went in and I said I thought I was in labor. We started to fill out paperwork, but I kept having to stop in the middle. The nurse then at one point said that I was making her very nervous and she was going to go get the dr that was there to check me. He came in and checked and then said, okay, you are 100%. I figured he meant dialated. So I said, well can I get my epidural? At that point he looked at me like I had six heads, and was like… there’s no time for an epidural, you are 10cm and need to get to the labor and delivery room to start pushing. Well, let me tell you… we were SHOCKED. I walked down to the delivery room and the nurses all were standing there clapping and asking me what my secret was… that they never saw a first time mother walk down the hall smiling at 10cm. It was pretty funny. We went to the room, and the contractions were coming hard and fast. I was extremely uncomfortable. They had to try 4 times to put the IV in me… I was getting very irritable. Finally my dr came and we started pushing. I’m not going to lie… this by FAR was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do! I pushed for 80mins… and there were times where I was crying and saying that I just couldn’t do it, but the nurses and my dr, and dh and my sister and my grandmother all kept cheering me on. I just closed my eyes and prayed to my mom to help me and let her come out! (By the way, my sister came from the city and was able to watch the whole thing, as did my 90 year old grandmother!!)… anyway… my dr gave me an episiotomy, because I stared to tear, and that was such a relief because right after that, out came Ashley Carol!! All I remember saying was THANK GOD SHE’S OUT!!!!!!! LOL…. It all happened so fast that she was very mucusy and her oxygen was at 80%, not 100%... so the NICU dr’s came in… it was scary, but they said she was a 7/8 on the apgar, but they just wanted to take her to the NICU (Schneider’s Children’s Hospital) I gave birth at LIJ… to be safe. So I only got to hold her for like 30 seconds, then she was whisked away. She was born at 6:35am.. and I finally got to see her again at around 1pm. But DH went and saw her with my grandma and his parents and my bil and sil which was good. When I got to see her again, it was love at first sight! I cant stop kissing her and holding her! I ended up getting a private room, and DH stayed the whole time with us. It was a great time for us to bond and learn together how to take care of her. I hated being in the hospital, but it was all worth it in the end!! She’s doing so well and besides the fact that we hardly sleep and I’m achy and sore, I couldn’t be happier!!

Makes me think I should go sit at the hospital now!!!

Shes adorable and I cant believe how we were both due around the same time and how we both went early and a day apart!
