My boss is great-puts me on the spot

Most of you know how much I love my boss and how great she is to me.

She was trying to come up with a holiday gift for me and couldn't decide so she was thinking that she would just ask me.

Well she did. She wants to give me something personal, say a spa day or a weekend away with DH or something along those lines. Something to help me de-stress from this crappy year I've had.

She wa even thinking, a spa day with my mom or a friend.

Nice for sure, but how do I pick something? I think she put me on the spot but I'm awfully thankful.

What would you do or pick? I haven't even discussed this with DH yet.

I'd definitely choose something with my DH. Chat Icon She sounds like a very considerate boss!

I agree. I think that would do you both a world of good.

I would just say something like "thank you so much for asking... DH and I were actually just thinking of going to ____" and then pick a place

What a generous boss!

I have to say, though, I'd be uncomfortable to be in that position. People giving me gifts feels weird to me - as does feeling like I'm asking for something. (I'm weird, I know! My bridal shower was so uncomfortable when it got to the gift opening part b/c it hit me that this was a party just to give me gifts!)

That said, what would you really want from what she offered? I'd go with that. As someone who loves to give gifts, I'd say go for what you want, as it sounds like your boss just REALLY wants to do something nice for you. And, on top of that, YOU DESERVE IT!

Re: My boss is great-puts me on the spot

It was uncomfortable. But I know her and she only asked because she really wanted the maximum impact for me. I'm not shy and she usually gives me cash but I think this year she wanted to do something personal. She didn't want the gift to go to bills, home improvements..etc..

I would love a weekend away with DH. Now where?

Do you like to ski? What do you like to do?

If you like wine tasing, I know a great hotel in the finger lakes...

Love wine tasting. We could use a getaway. How far of a drive is it?

we aren't skiiers although he has and I would love to, but riding horseback in the snow, snow mobiling..etc..is great.

I would love a spa type thing too with a really great bunch of restaurants.

Re: My boss is great-puts me on the spot

of the choices given, i'd go with the spa day. i'd feel uncomfortable taking a weekend trip from her - even though she offered. but i guess it depends on how comfortable you are with her!

What about a night at Mohonk Mountain House with DH? I love the finger lakes, and went to college up there, but it's far for one night. It's kind of far even for two nights.

Kara - What hotel for the wine tasting? I live near the finger lakes and am always looking for new places to take people when they come visit!

Thanks!

Blu-ize, my boss did something similar for me. She sent DH and I to Mirbeau Spa (also on the finger lakes) for a weekend together. I felt uncomfortable about it too, but if she wants to do it for you - let her! It's not like you asked her to do it! We got a couples massage, hung out in the whirlpool, did Christmas shopping in the town... It was amazing and very relaxing. It was so much better than any cash bonus would have been...

I have a review on the travel board here... LINK to Spa Review

Good luck and ENJOY whatever you decide!!! Chat Icon

Yes, I've been--I actually almost had my wedding there because I used to live upstate near there. Here's the website They also have a spa there, and it's not too far. I think there are some reviews on the travel board. The scenery is breathtaking.

The hotel is nice to stay in -- the wine tasting is all over the finger lakes. I have a great limo company, too, that does wine tours -- The drivers are fantastic and very knowledgeable. They're also inexpensive.

The hotel is Belhurst Castle. (Stay in the Vinifera Inn portion of the place, though, not the castle. The castle part (same building) is more expensive, but the rooms are older and IMHO not as nice.) There are two good restaurants there as well -- one fancier and one more pub-style.

I have to look up the limo company we used... Let me know if you'd like it. If you want me to recommend specific wineries, I can, but I have to go home and look at my notes. LOL. (I don't like Belhurst much, but you get a free tasting when you stay there... Off the top of my head, I did like Prejean, Fox Run, and Heron Hill. Hazlitt is a fun place to go, but the wine is just okay - mostly very sweet)

I live up here right by it. It's gorgeous. We are actually doing some hiking up there and going to dinner at the mountain house on Saturday. It's not that far...we commute from New Paltz to Westchester 3 days a week and it's about an hour each way. My mom comes to visit from Queens and it takes her about an hour and a half.
