my boston bean birth story
A little background - When i first got pregant we were living in boston. We moved to long island when i was about 20 weeks. our name the entire pregnancy for the baby was bean because we were team green.
on monday sept 21st, i flew up to boston for my last two days in the office. i had not felt single contraction yet. at 2:30 on teusday sept 22nd my water broke with a gush while i was staying in a hotel. I did not have a single contraction then so i called my DH in NY and let him know what was going on. He started organizing everything because were not sure if was going to fly or drive up yet mattering on timing. My contractions started as a small back ache around 3:30 and were 5 minutes apart initally. I talked to my doctor in ny who of course was the on call doctor that night. She gave me the names for the meds I needed because i was strep b positive and allergic to pencillan.
At around 4:30, i called a friend an hour away to come help. i got ready to leave the hotl and took cab to the hospital i began my care at mgh.
I got to the hospital at about 5:15 am . when the doctor first checked me i was 6 cm and at the -1 station. My friend gotto the hospital about 5:40 so ihad some support. Around 6, i received the drugs for strep b and around 6:15 i received the epidural. At the time they said about 10 cm but they wanted to slow labor down. the epidural was a godsend because i was having back labor every 2 minutes at that point.
With the epidural, i was able to sleep for an hour and wait for my DH whot got there at 9- he of course ran into boston's rush hour. At 10:45, they checked me and i was 10 cm and +2 station and said i could start pushing when ever i felt the urge. At about 11, i felt the urge to push ans started pushing every couple of minutes. Between pushing sessions, i said i was hungry so igot an ice pop, which i ate when i was relaxing between pushes. Thanks to the epidural, i was laughing with the nurses, my friend and my dh. I really started pushing really ofter=n around 12:30. Braedan was born at 1:10 with his hand around his head. I need a small episomotmy to get him through.
At MGH, everyone gets a private room which is nicer than huntington hospital where there are lots of double rooms. Plus we had a room with aa view of the charles river.
He was born at 37 weeks 5 days. Hew was 8 lbs and about 20 inches they measure in metric there.
He is doing well but not latching that well since we got home so i have stated pumping. The nurses at mgh were great about helping with feeding and so was the lactation consulatants.
We had a long drive home but we stopped at friends house on the way so i could feed braedan and let my friend see him.
It was not what we planned but everything worked out in the end because friends got to see him as well as my nana who took the bus from Vermont to see him Image Attachment(s):
