My commute to work today

Okay so I'm on the train this morning at almost 7 months pregnant. A handful of people sitting begin to stare at my belly knowing I am obviously pregnant but anyone might ever give up their seat Chat Icon

In addition to all this my heart begins to pound, I start sweating, felt faint and like I was going to vomit at the same time. My co-worker was on the train with me and said I looked pale. I drank some water and felt better shortly after. I think it was just an anxiety attack but thankfully I feel much better.

In addition to all this still no one offered their seat! What amazes me most is how inconsiderate people can be especially with a large sign over their heads that clearly reads, "Kindly give up your seat to the elderly, handicap or pregnant women" Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

AMAZING!!!!!!

Re: My commute to work today

That is just awful. I do not miss commuting into the city.

I love when you KNOW the people see you and they pretend not to.

How rude!

Re: My commute to work today

I have no expectations of people... in fact I tend to be surprised when people are kind... stinks to be so synical, but this is what it comes down to.

Sorry you had that experience with the syncope and all. I get that a lot, especially in the morning. Make sure you stay hydrated and if your blood pressure is low make sure you are eating something or bring a salty snack or something. I keep salted cashews in the car with me all day.

Re: My commute to work today

Uggghhhh!! I know exactly how you feel.

The best is when you are waiting for the train and when it comes, there's clearly only one or 2 seats left and people have almost pushed me aside to get to the seat!!

Re: My commute to work today

Amazing, right? I am 36 wks and still don't here "would you like to sit?". I've been offered a seat a handful of times.

I do have a history of faintish spells on the subway (even before I was pg) usually from low blood pressure. If you feel like you need to sit you should just yell "would someone mind giving up your seat?" Embarass the sh!t out of them - they'll get up Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: My commute to work today

I totally sympathize with you! The best part of my ride is usually LIRR. When I would wait on the LIRR platform, people would let me get on the train first so that I could get a seat (I'm the last stop before Penn Station on the express trains).

When I get to Penn Station, I'm surprised by how rude most people are on the subway. People would see that I'm pregnant but would continue to push their way to get into the crowded subway car. Meanwhile, I'm covering my stomach and pushing back to protect the little one. Other people would see that I'm pregnant but are too lazy to give up their seat.

I'm also surprised by people's generosity when they offer their seat...I wish more people were like that!
