My disability claim was denied
I am SO angry and frustrated right now. They denied my claim because I've seen a chiropractor for years to try to keep my back problems at bay.
Well, apparently this ruptured disc counts as a "pre-existing condition" because I saw my chiropractor for a visit about 3 months before I became unable to work.
AGGGGGGHHHHHHH 
I'm going to call them tomorrow to let them know that they will be hearing from my lawyer.

Oh no! I was so worried about this. I read my book inside and out before I went out on disability.
I know with out plan a pre-existing condition may not be covered for long term disability but doesn't affect short term. I hope this ends up being the case for you.
I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

Can't they put the claim in different since it is the pregnancy causing your back pain which isn't pre-existing? If you weren't pg you wouldn't be having this severe pain. Maybe that sounds simple, but thats how i think it should be no?

This is actually what I plan to do. I do know that the pregnancy didn't CAUSE the ruptured disc, because I started having symptoms at 6 weeks, WAY too early for the baby's weight to have caused it. BUT, I do feel that the pregnancy has absolutely made the condition worse.
I'm just so disgusted. I can't believe that to this day, insurance companies (and some doctors) don't see chiropractic as a maintenance/preventative thing--they see it as a "quick fix" and therefore, because I saw a chiropractor before my injury, it must have been because I had the injury already.

This is ridiculous. Who is to say THAT is why you saw the chiropractor!!! It sickens me when they use this preexisting illness BS. I am so sorry, you have to try to fight this.

WOW...that really stinks! Do you already have a lawyer? I would consult one ASAP. I have a feeling once you push back you may get more positive results. It s*cks it has to be that way but you know what they say about the squeeky wheel.

That's so stupid! So if I go to my regular doc for a visit and then get a disability, its pre-existing? That is the dumbest thing ever I hope the lawyer sticks it to them.

I called them to ask specifically WHY my claim was denied. They told me it was because I saw a chiropractor before I got hurt. I informed them that I've been seeing a chiropractor for years for preventative measures.
I got their official appeal process, and I contacted my aunt, who's a lawyer in Atlanta. I'm not giving up!

Definitely don't give up!!
You chiropractor never diagnosed a ruptured disc. For all you know he could have ruptured it (not saying he did). They are being ridiculous!!!

You know something? I think he definitely made it worse.
I haven't been able to find as good a chiropractor as the one I had in NY, but this guy seemed to know what he was doing, so I kept going to him.
He used to have his assistant (another DC) "stretch me out" after an adjustment. It hurt SO badly that I used to beg him to stop, but he told me that it was necessary to keep the leg muscles loose and to stretch the hamstrings. Maybe so--but they didn't realize that my disc had practically exploded in my spinal column.
