My Dog ate a pack of gum - rave for animal poision control

I found a chewed up pack of gum in Bowie's crate. He must have taken out of my bag, and I knew I had chewed only a few pieces, so since there were no actual pieces of gum to be found, I figured he must have eaten it all.
I called the vet who said to call poison control - they were so nice and so helpful!
It costs $35 for a consult, but it is worth it to give you piece of mind!

ETA:
The number for poison control is 1-800-213-6680.

They said that they weren't really concerned because of his size - but there is one ingredient in gum - xylitol - that can be a concern. It lowers blood sugar, so if he was smaller or had consumed a larger quantity, he could have had a serious drop in blood sugar. They said to feed him a meal and to watch him for the next 4-6 hrs for lethargy, walking unsteadily, etc.
They said that if I had any more questions I could call back, and would not be charged again.

My dog did this once. It was a pack of trident and there was not a single tooth mark on the package, but all the gum was gone. He always gets carsick so we drove around until he threw up - I felt bad about making him car sick, but at least he didn't get sick from the gum :) Defintely a scary situation.

That's great to hear! (The helpfulness, not the gum chewing...lol) Can you share the number for animal poison control?

I have called them too...they are very helpful and we do have to pay b/c it's not funded by the city or state/govt, etc.

How is your doggie doing? I know if it's sugar free gum or sugar free products, that can be harmful to them.
