My dog is limping
My poor dog is limping and won't put her left paw down. I looked at her leg and it look perfectly fine. She is not whimpering, she is acting normal except for the limp. When I do touch the paw it is like she has NO feeling what so ever in it.
Has anyone's dog experienced this? Any suggestions? I get so nervous whenever anything happens to her because I constantly worry it is something serious.

Re: My dog is limping
Something similar happened to my dog last year. It turns out she had a sort of pimple on her paw pad. She went on antibiotics, had to wear a sock outside to keep it clean, and we had to soak it for 10 mins, 3 times a day.

Re: My dog is limping
Does her foot look swollen. This happened to my dog a few years ago. WE thought she sprained it but i would not take a chance. I ran her to my vet and she took her temp. She was at 103.6. MY vet said either Rocky mtn fever i think it was called or Lymes disease. Turned out to be Lymes. Her foot did not hurt her and she did not flinch when i touched it. She had a tick on her the year before. Took it off. Thought nothing of it. a year later she wound up with lymes. The vet said jit can harbour for a long time without symptoms.
I would call the vet. She might have sprained it or something too. There are many possibilities.

Re: My dog is limping
I would think if she was sick then she would act sick, right? She acts perfectly fine. I really hope she is not sick. I do not think it is swollen. It is strange because DH said she was fine all day, then she cuddled with me for a while got up and started this limping. It does not look swollen, but she is a completely black dog so I can't really see anything on her very well. I want to take her to vet tonight, but I have to wake up at 5:30 am for work.

Re: My dog is limping
This happened to Jake last week. We came home from dinner and he was holding his paw up and couldn't walk on it. I was all ready to take him to the ER Vet but DH said lets wait it and out see how he is the next day. It turns out he was fine. The next day he was running around like the night before never happened. I'd wait till tomorrow to see how she is before you take her to the vet tonight.

Re: My dog is limping
This has been happening to my dog on and off for over 6 mths. We took him to the vet 3 times, had xrays done, etc, taken antiinflammatories a few times, vet gave him shots for inflammation, etc. It would get better but come back. Even tested him for Lymes (neg).
What we finally did was stop him from using the stairs for about a mth and stop him from jumping from couches, etc. And sure enough, he has been a lot better.
Did anything happen? We know this started for our dog when he jumped down weirdly off the couch one night. Did you take him to the vet for a check up/xrays maybe?

Re: My dog is limping
If this is an isolated incident, it could just be that her leg fell asleep. This used to happen to my childhood dog.
You mentioned that she was fine all day and the came and cuddled up to you and it was only when she got up after cuddling that she limped.
It could be nothing. I would keep an eye on her and if it persists try to get her to the vet and have her leg checked out.

Re: My dog is limping
I am definitly going to keep her from going up and down the stairs, but I will have to carry her, luckily she is not that big. I have not seen her do anything out of the ordinary, the only thing that seems strange to me is my MIL said the same thing happened the night before when she was with her. And do you guys think that a leg or foot that has fallen asleep would take hours to wake up? I thought it had fallen asleep but it never seemed to wake back up.
I wanted to check on her this morning but I wake up so early for work she won't get out of bed and walk around for me

It would not take hours iif it feel asleep. We thought the same thing b/c he would limp when he got up from sleep the most.
I too have to carry my dog up and down (he sleeps with us upstairs). I have to say it really has helped tremendously. But I would def get her checked. I forgot to say that the xray showed swelling when we did take him but nothing was broken.

Re: My dog is limping
xrays cost us about $80 for the xray alone (not the visit). Antiiflammatory pills cost about $15.

Carrying her up the stairs will be helpful but the fact that your MIL said this happened to her when she watched your pup, I think you should have her checked out by the vet.
Her leg falling asleep should not last longer than a few minutes.
Good luck and keep us posted!
