My Dr's take on the Glucose test and fasting...
So the nurse gave me my script to get the glucose test done at my appt last week. She told me to wait until at least March 5th though - since I"m not far enough along.
I asked the nurse if I had to fast and she said no. Then she saw that my insurance covered Quest Labs and was like OH BOY.
I was like what?
She goes- if they give you a hard time about the fasting- tell them to call us. Do NOT let them bully you into leaving because you didn't fast. Tell them your DOCTOR'S ORDERS were to eat before the test.
I was like okkkkkk
Then the Dr walks in- sees I'm going to Quest. She starts in too. Tells me that I have her 'permission' to lie to them and say I fasted.
Apparently Quest is notorious for being hard azzes about the fasting- even if the Dr says you dont' have to fast. I just couldn't believe the strong reactions I was getting from both the nurse, then the Dr.
I am assuming they have had issues in the past with them on this.
I guess I'll be eating a high protein breakfast before I go. (Which is better because i do NOT do well with fasting then having blood drawn. ESPECIALLY considering I will have a belly full of sugar this time as well! )

My doc. just told me that if they ask if I fasted just to tell them I did...even if I didnt. He said it's not really necessary to fast.

I think this is a great plan! I fasted last time with DS and barely passed with a 129.
This time I had turkey and cheese for breakfast and I passed with an 87! I really think it made a difference

Re: My Dr's take on the Glucose test and fasting...
I went to Quest and they sent me home the first time because I didn't fast! They gave me a VERY hard time even though I insisted that my Dr. told me not to fast. I called my doctor after I left adn they said "just fast tomorrow morning and go again, so you don't have to deal with them!"
Oh, and make sure you go in the AM (make an appt), the first time I went in the afternoon, and that was how the KNEW i didn't fast!

That's what they said Quest would do. Try to send me home. And I would be pizzed too because as it is they won't do the glucose test on a Saturday and I would have to take off from work. I don't get why they think they know better than the Dr's. Seriously.
Thanks for the advice about going in the morning. I was planning on lying anyway- but I didn't think of that.

Re: My Dr's take on the Glucose test and fasting...
Yup- when I went to Quest for my 1 hour they asked if I fasted, when I said "no" the woman at the sign in was very snotty and told me I should have because I was going to end up having to take it again. I was soooo angry. Don't know why the techs there think a patient should listen to them instead of an MD!
I did end up having GD, so whether I had fasted or not, my sugar would have been high.

Re: My Dr's take on the Glucose test and fasting...
i went to a quest in the afternoon around 12pm and nobody asked if i fasted, although on the referral my dr gave me, it said do not fast and it was highlighted so i guess they can't argue with that
