How come everyone's status updates are always so negative? It's always something bad.

I completely agree with you. I always try to mix it up & post when I am annoyed over something & when I am happy as a clam over something minor.
I think people find it easier to complain about whats wrong. I also think many people do it for sympathy points.

It's hard...sometimes it's a good place to vent. I try to balance so I'm not relentlessly cheery either.
Honestly, I had a cr@p day yesterday, but posted a relatively happy post so as not to be ultra-negative.
We've said it here before, no one likes when all your posts are the same be it happy, down, rants whatever.
I try to mix it up

I think this is one of those can't win situations. If someone always posts positive statuses, someone else would be rolling their eyes complaining about that.

UGH. My friend is such a debbie downer. She calls me every single day without fail to complain about how hard everything is. And I get it, it's HARD. She's been going through a lot lately (though to be honest, she brings half of it on herself) but after an entire year of commiserating with her everyday I'm exhausted.

I make a conscious effort to make my updates funny/uplifting etc., but there are times that I'm having a really crappy day and my first facebook instinct is to post about it. I think it's just getting things off the old chest. No biggie.

yes i agree, the negative ones are downers. especially the angry rants or worse the passive aggressive put downs.

yes, it's the o-woe-is-me syndrome. They have no attention irl and love to wallow on fb for sympathy posts.
Lots of my friends don't just complain tho, lots who have kids post about their acheivements, or going on vacations etc.
I personally refuse to complain on there (except I do complain about the trains when I have issues ) but not about life in general. I have food on my table, a roof over my head, a man who loves me, and my health (for the most part) so why complain that someone cut me in line at the damn 7-11?

I think it's kind of annoying when the same person ALWAYS puts negative updates but I think we've all been there and posted a negative thing here or there. It's tough to be happy all the time. I try to just do humorous ones...

I have a wide variety of status updates from friends.
One friend trying to decide between a dishwasher and a jacuzzi.
One friend talking about her newborn's poop - and the sheer amount of it!
And lots of game posts and pictures, etc. too.
