My first ever needle turn applique

I just had to share this because I am so impressed with myself Chat Icon I have always wanted to try hand applique, but have been terrified of it! I did try it once and gave up before I finished the first leaf.

I took a class with Ami Simms last weekend (she was awesome BTW) and something clicked! I couldn't wait to find a pattern to try. This is my first attempt, I am sooo excited by it and have found that I now love hand applique Chat Icon I also learned that Hand Quilting Thread isn't ideal for applique (you can see it in my bumpy leaves) Chat Icon

Here is the full block:

and a close up, you can see some stitches, but still I'm pretty psyched for it being my first

Thanks for letting me share!

That is awesome
Where did you take your class?

I work for a fabric company and most of the material goes to quilt shops. It's so huge outside our area and there are just a few quilt shops that have nice fabric here on LI.

Re: My first ever needle turn applique

Thank you Chat Icon

I took the class at my guild, I am the VP and Program Coordinator, I had heard wonderful things about Ami Simms so I scheduled her for a lecture and a workshop. She really is amazing!

I am Upstate. near Albany, and there are a ton of quilt shops up here, I can think of about a dozen within an hour. It is hard to find good fabric outside of a quilt shop and is makes such a huge difference in the final product! I hope LI get some more, it is tough to buy fabric online, you have to be able to touch it!

We FM'd before when I was looking for a specific fabric, I did end up finding it with your recommendation! Thank you! I was supposed to send you a letter about fabric for my Guild's Charity Projects and forgot about it once the guild year got going Chat Icon The program year ends next month, I'll put it on my calendar to send you the letterChat Icon
