my babygirl (i.e. 7 month-old german shepherd) is losing her lady parts on friday. we pick her up on saturday. besides the fasting before surgery, is there anything i should bear in mind?

Re: my first spaying

awwww Chat Icon I know the feeling, she will be ok though. We had our baby girl fixed about this time last year. I think it was worse on me than her.

We were able to take her her the same day, she was fairly calm for a few days but didn't seem to be in pain. However, she HATED HATED HATED the e-collar. The best solution for us was to get a t-shirt of ours and put it on her. I used a hair tie to make is less loose in the back. It worked perfectly, she wasn't able to get to her stitches and didn't have to wear the dreaded e-collar.

she may seem uncomfortable but I assure you in a day or two it will pass. Just make sure she doesnt lick the incision. My vet didnt give us a cone so we had to watch her with the incision. Let us know how she does. Glad she is coming home. Chat Icon

she seemed good yesterday, but i think she's licking the incision in the crate over night. tomorrow she's going to be home alone save for her half hour with the dogwalker, so i think i have to pick up an e-collar for when we're not around.
