My friend's baby had a seizure last night--update.
She's 15 months, and had a fever for the past few days. The seizure could be from the fever and it could be nothing, right? Are fevers common in babies? Or does it always mean something bad? She had an appointment with the Dr. at 3, but I haven't heard anything yet.
update: Just got a text from her and the doctor said she would be fine. I guess this isn't dangerous, just very scary to watch.

It may have been caused by the fever (actually pretty common). Or the worst case is she has some kind of epilepsy. Which, if that is the case, its best to findout now. My brother didnt find out until he was 22 and had his first grand maul seizure.

But the fever may not indicate something very serious? Maybe just an infection that can be treated? I hope so!

Re: My friend's baby had a seizure last night
I have had two nieces have seizures due to high fevers as babies. It is a way for the body to fight it apparently. VERY scary for every involved. They are healthy big twirps now.

Re: My friend's baby had a seizure last night
My boy had a febrile seizure at 15 months.
Totally caused by fever. EMT said egged on by me for putting his feet into a luke warm tub. Also caused by me for waiting till 4 hours and 15 minutes passed before giving tylenol...that those 15 minutes mattered.
Scariest, sickest moment of my life.
hugs to your friend.

Febrile seizures are not that uncommon and cause no permanent damage. I hope your friends baby is ok

Re: My friend's baby had a seizure last night
My son had a febrile seizure at 15 months also. He hadn't even been sick, but spiked a high fever in his sleep and went into a seizure. It's an absolutely horrible thing to watch, but depite that, they're actually harmless. It's actually the bodies way of protecting itself. They are not that uncommon. I had never really heard of anyone having one, but as soon as my son had his, all of sudden people started telling me how they had had one or know someone who had one. It's just not something that comes up in normal, every day conversation.
