Thanks for your thoughts everyone. I was not close to this woman, but definitely knew who she was and saw her around a lot.

After rereading the original post, I would like to say I am sorry if it seems that I politicized her death at all by saying that she didn't have insurance and therefore didn't get tested regularly. I know it is a simple procedure and even if she did have insurance who knows if she would have gone to the dr? Just some randomness running through my mind.

Anyway, I thank you all again for your well wishes and want to remind everyone to get their pap!

If one person is saved from tragedy by your message, then it was worth it. I'll even go a step further and remind everyone that just having health insurance is so important. Sometimes people who think they will be fine without it become very sick very fast and then there is no way to pay for the care they need. It's not so easy to just snap your fingers and get Medicare or Medicaid if you get sick.

I am sorry to learn of this loss. There are too many incurable cancers and I am still so upset about the loss of my friend to stomach cancer.

The same thing is happening with someone step-mom that I know. She is not covered by insurance so she never got checked out & recently announced that she has cancer.

This is so sad...my thoughts and prayers to your friend for his loss.

I actually had a fit about this yesterday--I went for my yearly pap in June in which they did a thin prep pap, and an HPV screening (two separate). I'm not sure why they did that since I've been sleeping with the same person for 4 1/2 years and have never had an abnormal pap in my life.

Long story short, I got a bill for $105 from Quest. I also got the "denial" of claim notice from Aetna because apparently screening for HPV before you turn 30 is deemed "unnecessary" and therefore they don't cover it. Aren't the bulk of HPV infections in teens/early 20s?

My 37 year old neighbor is dying of cervical cancer. I have never been so ****** off, its not even about the $105, its about HOW DOES YOUR INSURANCE TELL YOU WHATS NECESSARY AND WHATS NOT?! Its your health!

I am so sorry to hear that. How scary. I haven't gone in years and just recently made my appointment after having nagging pains. My appointment is Thursday - now i'm terrified. Chat Icon
